I think I remember people being a bit ???? about Neesham not getting selected in that Lord Colin debut game. And I think it only really happened because it was green af.
Yeah:

C de Grandhomme.. 1 big score gets you into the team.. I don't understand what he brings, that Neesham doesn't. He's a 30yo+ flat track slogger with 130k 4th seamer.

Feel a little sorry for Henry, they must think it will flatten out.
I've got nothing against CdG but I assumed Neesham must've been injured when I saw he made the eleven. I actually thought it was a good call when I assumed that, but apparently Neesham's fine. What gives?

Colin took three in the first session and six on Day 1. History was written.
Yeah, looking back at the CW thread for that series, you're right. Some choice quotes from before and during his debut

de Grandhomme. Wut?
Ha, wow. Everyone knows I love Dutchy like I love the cold side of the pillow but I never saw this coming.
de Grandhomme, where in the hell did that come from?

"It's as good as it can be, so hopefully they won't be out for too long," Shane Jurgensen, the bowling coach, said. "We want them on the plane to Perth. So it's a case of rest and rehab for them over the course of this Test. Trent will doing physio five times a day for the next week. He'll be sleeping with the physio. Hopefully it will be quite a quick rehab."

To be honest, an abdominal muscle tear sounds like the sort of thing that could keep a bowler out for a couple months, so I'm really worried Colin will miss the Aus tour. Fingers crossed for both of them.

Haha, what was her name again? I remember from the 2009 Champions Trophy, Ryder pulling a hammy and letting out a stream of undirected abuse, and her responding with one of the most exaggerated eye-rolls I've ever seen.

When is it just going to be universally accepted that McHesson are a couple of dickheads who inspired those in their inner circle to play some effective alpha bro cricket for a few years.
I never really understood Hesson's comment anyway "he's got a super high IQ but not much EQ". What does that even mean?

And Hesson/Bmac was a great era of NZ cricket, how dare you speak against it hahahaha.

He's smart and he knows it and he's a ****wit basically. EQ is a reference to "emotional intelligence"

CdG's inclusion also coincided with Larsen coming in as selector and no doubt he recognised the value of a fellow line & length merchant on early season NZ wickets.

All this talk of the recent past has got me nostalgic asf. Really miss Milne, Anderson. Hope they catch fire in the domestic scene and come back roaring. That 2014-2016 really was a time for me when NZC started to rise as a side who could be competitive in all formats in various conditions. To the point where we actually expect our team to be highly competitive and even win in places like Aus, Ind, UAE etc etc

Can't take that for granted.

Also, sucks for our boys and CDG if he can't make it for the AUS tests. Our most consistent test allrounder in a very long time. He will be sorely missed if he doesn't even play a single test across the ditch. Have no idea who could replace him, and I don't think anyone on our domestic scene will be able to fill CDG' shoes. Just don't have any faith in the likes of Darryl Mitchell's and the likes. Neesh and Anderson should just stay white ball specialists. Next cab on the rank for me would be Kuggs....

Bit rich of hesson to throw shade at someones emotional intelligence when he told a skipper he wouldn't be skipper anymore the night before he was going to captain a game anyway.

I really hope we go in with the 4 seamers. Southee, Wagner, Henry and Ferguson. It sounds like our selectors obsession with all-rounders will kick in though and Mitchell will play. I think he's a decent player, don't get me wrong, just feel like it's the wrong move.

Had no idea Mitchell was even in the frame as a test option. Happy to be proved wrong but reminds me of the selection of Grant Elliott as a replacement for Jacob Oram against England in 2008 (though Elliott was a real find in ODI cricket, will admit).

CdG possibly a bigger loss than Boult given the replacement situation? Who'd have thought!

I think that Mitchell might, like de Grandhomme, prove more effective with the bat in the longer format. He seems to have a relatively orthodox technique although he obviously has considerable power. The 170 against Henry and Astle in the first round of Plunket Shield probably helped convince the selectors.

Have only watched him in a T20 setting, so yeah this could well be the case. CdG as fifth bowler option is harder to replace.
