Not sure anyone actually knows. The ECB chief has said something about having to consider the mental well-being of the players (which I agree with obv). Don’t know any more than that.
Aggers was on BBC just now saying that all of the players tested negative via PCR last night/this morning

Whatever it takes!!!
Ah. Vaccinated close contacts don't need to self-isolate in the UK any more though.
Unsure coz this Manchester leg involves some kind of bio-bubble for the UAE IPL too. Its why the main physio has been self isolating even though he did not test positive.

Think the worry was that the physio has interacted with basically all players in the squad. If there are positive tests that happen in the incubation period and the test is already underway it would be far worse. Also most players are travelling with family that includes kids who are obviously not vaccinated. They were worried about that too. The only two options were to push back the IPL by a week and postpone the test by 5-6 days and ensure players all return negative tests in that period. The second option is what has happened now.

The Wheel is Forever

The India players signed a letter at midnight on Thursday telling their board they would not be playing the fifth Test at Old Trafford due to fears over covid, Telegraph Sport understands.
Senior India players met last night and despite reassurances from the ECB about the covid protocols, decided to stand together with many fearing a further spread of covid could prevent them from playing in the IPL which restarts in the UAE on Sept 19.

or losses of around £40m, in the same

But if the match was cancelled by Covid, the ECB are not covered by insurance leaving them with a huge whole in their finances, a year after losing £16m.

The ECB are furious that India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri, attended a book launch in London last week along with 150 members of the public. He was the first member of the India party to test positive. The book launch had not been cleared by the ECB’s covid compliance department.

The BCCI are refusing at this stage to forfeit the match and accept liability. It would mean the series is a 2-2 draw.

The matter could end up being resolved by the International Cricket Council’s dispute resolution committee.

if this is the covid criteria, we can never have cricket again.

I dont there was any protocol breach and it was not expected that events should be cleared by that department. That is just biased drivel reporting which is not surprising in any media these days.

The reality is that the players have been going out and mingling quite a bit with the UK coming out of lockdowns. It was just an unfortunate development. The other physio testing positive has just alarmed the players as most are here with their kids who are not vaccinated. And the physio has basically been working with all players.

BCCI should sue ECB for its careless handling of the situation with covid running rampant. They put the lives under threat by allowing a full house without masks and worse, letting random fans run onto the pitches.

PCR test means nothing. It takes 3 to 4 days to develop symptoms. There was huge chance players being covid positive during match or passing it to England players.

Ah yes, suing, that classic activity you can target someone with when you simply dislike them/what they are doing.

Dude, the players are people too. I can understand many stances but this is silly to the extreme.
He's not wrong though. There's never going to be a time when people don't have unvaccinated kids, and the virus is endemic, so a touring party member testing positive will be common.
