Why on earth you would have James Marshall, Stephen Fleming and Chris Martin in a 20/20 squad I don't know

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Good to see the inclusion of guys like Scott, Redmond and Elliott. Otherwise it's basically the usual suspects.

McGlashan and Marshall are just wastes of space in there. Might as well have just named 28 players for all the use they'll be.

In fact, they should have named 29. Replace one of the above with ole Heathy.

Yeah, can't see the need for 3 wicketkeepers. Why do you need an initial squad of 30 for a bloody Hit & Giggle WC anyway?!

I think you're being very kind to McGlashan by calling him a keeper. He's all-round poor in my opinion. Stu Mills or Bevan Griggs would be much better selections. I don't understand the continued fascination with picking McGlashan for 20:20 squads.

The other interesting thing is as to who has been left out. No Big Jesse, so we can assume Redmond, Brrrrrrooom and Scott are now ahead of him in the pecking order (no surprise given his big mouth!)

The other big surprise, of course, is no Heath. For shame.

I wonder if Big Jesse will spit the dummy again ?

No Tuffey or Kyle Mills either

He is innovate and dinky, therefore he must be a good Twenty20 player.

Scott is an opening bowler, so I doubt him and Ryder are competing for the same spot. Redmond and Broom are both gun players though.

Thank **** for that.
Mills would be a decent 20/20 player imo but he's injured anyway. No Tuffey is no great surprise but you would think he would have got in ahead of some of the others there

Mills would get slaughtered, he can't bowl at the death in ODI cricket and doesn't have very good variation. Tuffey doesn't deserve to be in there, given how dire he was at the World Cup, but I am surprised he wasn't named in the squad.

I know next to nothing about these chaps. Any of them any good?

McMillan is a poor man's Bond by all reports - good bowler when he's fit and firing, but it comes along so rarely that it's not really worth it. O'Brien looked ridiculously bad in his first and only test series but he does well domestically... I'm not sure how he'd go in Twenty20 cricket though. McSkimming is a medium pacer who can bat a little bit IIRC but I don't know much about him, and I've never heard of Elliott before in my life.

I'm obviously not the most qualified to answer this, though.

McMillan and McSkimming both play for Otago, pretty good bowlers with McMillan a lot like Bond in the fact that he is very injury prone but quite quick when he is fit. Ian O'Brien is a rubbish international bowler but dominates regularly in both the short and long form of the game. Grant Elliott is a South African played who came to New Zealand in 2006 with the potential to play international cricket. Handy all-rounder for Wellington.

Elliott came to Wellington in 2005. His qualification has come a little too quickly for my liking, considering he was playing for South Africa A as recently as 2002. Solid all-rounder, but unspectacular in either discipline and is sure only to ever play as second fiddle to Oram as even if his form was better at any point, there must be some stigma attached to being a defector!!

Iain O'Brien lives in Petone. Like Heath and Robert Kennedy. Decent bowler, but not as quick as I'd like!!

McGlashan doesn't look much, I'd say even Reece Young would make a better 20/20 keeper. Not to mention Bevan Griggs, hes a CD man so he should be excellent.:p

Three keepers tend to suggest one is going to be a specialist batsman. I'd bet it would be McCullum. If thats the plan then it should be him and Hopkins, though i'd prefer just the one in the playing eleven as the keeper so we have some room down the order.

I highly rate James McMillan and Iain O'Brien. In fact if they're going to have a specialist test seamer then instead of Martin one of those two should be in instead. IMO O'Brien has improved and matured since his last call up and will make a decent fist of another chance thrown his way. Also if he ever survives a whole season without being KIA then McMillan would make the test squad and possibly jump ahead of Gillespie, Mason etc in the pecking order.

James Marshall and Andre Adams inclusion is pointless. One can't bat at international level and the other is a bits and pieces cricketer. If he is not already on the list then Harris should be there. 20/20 is made for him, he could be the difference between us lifting the trophy and losing it IMO. One of the most underrated cricketers ever, along with Roger Twose.

Harris is there, it'd be a travesty if he didn't play, the best Twenty20 cricketer in New Zealand.
