New Zealand cricket announces contracted list for 10/11

Flem274*

123/5
Mills is good for one spell, but then he comes back when the ball isn't swinging and isn't that effective. He's pretty injury prone, and he's only good for one spell.

So I'd let him be an ODI specialist.

Wouldn't you say ATM that Southee is also only good for one spell?

Yes and no. It used to be the case, but now it fluctuates.

In any case, imo they are different. Southee is at the start of his career, has plenty of scope and doesn't have Mills's injury list.

I'd wouldn't mind Mills getting another shot if he wasn't so injury prone.

I know Mills has said that he would like another shot at test cricket - would be interesting to see how he goes. But I just don't see him as much different to Tuffey - the best they could do is perform a Chatfield type role where they try and keep it tight and put the pressure on that way from one end.

Unfortunately the only Hadlee type we have had recently just couldn't keep playing - sad sad sad...

Unless McKay and maybe Southee come on, we are really going to have a holding pattern type attack at best. I won't say pop gun attack, but we really rely on the opposition making mistakes rather than actually getting them out.

Bet you no one thought 2 years ago that we would miss O'Brien so much!

So assuming that the selectors stick to this list they've made... now there is no Ryder, McCullum B, or Vettori...

Interesting looking ODI side for the SL Tri Series

I'd probably go for

Watling
Guptill
Taylor
Styris
Elliot
Williamson
Hopkins
McCullum
Mills
Southee
McKay

Pretty good batting with Mills at 9, and 7 good bowling options as well.

Good side considering.

Reserves also pretty good - Oram, Tuffey, Patel, and whoever they call up to replace Ryder (probably Redmond?)

Would like Styris to play 3 otherwise agree with all. Redmond could get a call up actually. Also maybe Broom.

Sad to note Andre Adams still taking wickets for Notts - 7th game so far this year, he has 35 wickets at 23. Always felt like we missed the boat with that guy.

Just read that Redmond was confirmed as next cab off the rank by Paddy. But he is getting married and can't make it...

So it's out of Pinga, Stewart and Broom apparently and will be announced today.

Surely it's got to be Shanan Stewart who get's the call up, one of the best players of spin New Zealand have and he's probably the best finisher going around (on form) that we have.

Think they really need somone who can open otherwise they only have Guptill and Watling.

Fair point. With a middle order of Williamson, Taylor, Styris, Elliott and Hopkins he was probably no chance anyway.

Surprised Redmond is next cab off the rank tbh.
As am I. I don't rate Ingram at all (especially as a limited overs bat) but IMO he's a better option then Redmond who except for smashing Ireland about as shown nothing in limited over cricket for New Zealand.

Wait, you guys have a player named that? Oh the poor guy.
