Haha actually Morne v Broad v Johnson would make for a pretty good comparison. Hard to split.

Is the thread old enough to steer it elsewhere yet?

Broad monster mode or Johnston monster mode?
Johnson monster mode for sure, if only for the fact that his monster mode was actually how good he was for a short period, rather than just scattered Tests every few years as is the case with Broad.

If we're to talk about a peak of a year or so I've never seen a bowler as good as Johnson. Murali, Steyn and McGrath even at their best are left behind.

Overall I think Johnson offered a bit less to his side (or any other theoretical side that had him for an entire career) than even Broad and Morkel, let alone those guys I mentioned in my last sentence, but for that year he was ridiculous.

Yeah, whenever I'm feeling a bit down, I look at the highlights of Johnson's 2013/14. It was amazing. Sustained pace and brilliance all over the place.

If that's not available, I commend to everyone the highlights of England 1- Australia 3 from February 2003.

The closest Broad came to achieving a sustained run like that was the 2011 series against India. At times he was bowling 2-3 unplayable balls an over, it was ridiculous bowling.

I think I might have to buy the 2013 ashes to help me through this difficult year ahead. Watching his wickets just does not show the venom he spat ball after ball.
