Voted Pietersen because Yousuf averaged 29 against Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and WI (post Ambrose/Walsh 2000 tour) were completely uncompetitive bowling attacks. Outside of them, Yousuf averaged 43.8. That's less than Pietersen under the same filters despite playing on the flattest pitches in the world at home. Pietersen also has a much better record against Australia and South Africa (two strongest bowling sides they both faced). Due to being an Asian great, you'd imagine Yousuf would at least tower over KP in the subcontinent. But instead Pietersen even has a better record in India and Sri Lanka. He was the more destructive of the two also.
Think Sehwag v KP was/is very debatable, but I don't see much argument for Yousuf here apart from having a slightly longer career. One might argue 2006 tax (did include a wonderful tour of England) but I prefer to look at overall resume as I'm a big fan of consistency.

Yousuf is one of those players I rate enormously based on one series. I guess like Aussies with Vaughan. He was something else over here in 06.

I’m not judging him saying it should be stricken from his record or anything. Just found it quite interesting.
Yeah I just tried to think of other such cases. Couldn't think of any bowlers.

Venkatesh Prasad had a great 1996 and was **** outside of it. Mediocre overall. Ntini 2006 too.

Harmison 2004 (plus 2003 to a lesser extent).
