Re the comment about Lever and Albert Trott being the only players to score a 50 and take a 7-fer in the same Test - that should say "in their debut Test".

I've a vague memory of reading in Brearley's book about the 78-9 Ashes that Lever was left out without having done much wrong in the Test he played, but they wanted the second spinner (and Willis and Hendrick were both playing well). He might well have done a better job than Dilley/Willis the following winter.
