Kumar Dharmasena- The umpire

Lostman

State Captain
this is going to be interesting.

What do you guys think about this? He is going to be umpiring in games that his former teammates are playing in.
Jayasuriya, Murali, Jayawardena, Sangakarra, Dilshan and if Vaas/Fernando is selected, it would mean up to 7 former teammates.

Should be interesting to see him give Murali a 50/50 LBW against Tendulkar :)

Ex-allrounder comes full circle

Kumara Dharmasena to umpire Sri Lanka-India one-dayer

By Callistus Davy

Former Sri Lanka allrounder Kumara Dharmasena will enter a new phase in his blossoming retirement when he makes his on-field umpiring debut in international cricket at the second One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on January 31.

When he steps out Dharmasena will become the youngest ever international umpire from Sri Lanka and may be the first in the world to officiate a match in which some of his ex-team-mates will play.

“It’s such a great pleasure to be out there in the middle umpiring while your old colleagues are still playing”, said Dharmasena who might see his former mates Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitheran take their hats off to him.

Dharmasena, a live wire with his team at 141 one-dayers and 31 Tests, believes that his elevation to the status as an international umpire was a victory for all players and fans in the country.

“Personally I consider this a milestone, something that the players have come to appreciate. You can still be part of the game even after retiring”, said Dharmasena.

Nothing. Paul Reiffel is umpiring, so it's hardly a new thing.

International Debutant

All along I thought umpires are supposed to be from neutral countries? When did that rule change?

it would be strange seeing him umpire, becuase he only finshed playing in 2004 and played with nearly half the team, unlike Paul Reffiel who just had ponting who he played with.

Hope he is unbiased but gives 50/50 to stuff to SL:)
