Keepers batting at No 11

Perm

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
That would be unheard of in this day and age, but I imagine when international cricket first started up there would have been a few keepers who batted right down the order.

I know George Duckworth batted a long way down the list in the 1928/29 tour of Aust., not sure if he batted 11, but would not be surprised.

Also check out Strudwick of England he often batted low in the order and I would think he batted 11 on more than one occasion

Zulqarnain of Pakistan did I believe - as did Shahid Israr, a one-cap failure against New Zealand (he dropped Warren Lees, who went on to make 152)

Herbert Strudwick of England did bat at 11, and Percy Sherwell of South Africa (who opened in other Tests)

Might become a new specialist position in Twenty20 games - some teams will have enough allrounders for it to make more sense to play a brilliant keeper, who can concentrate almost solely on his glovework, than another who won't be much use stuck down the order at number eight.

Duckworth batted at No 11 in three of the Tests (although in two of them he did nigh****chman in one of the innings). One of the Tests he batted at 11 in was at the Brisbane Exhibiton Ground...and IMO there is more chance of England playing another Test there than there is of another England keeper batting at 11.

The ground no longer exists:ph34r:
