Kallis is under-rated in ODIs here but it's definitely Watson.

He has a case to have been the best ODI player ever.

Interesting thought. Who are the other contenders? Jayasuriya, Gilchrist?

ATG specialists like Tendulkar, McGrath, Bevan would have to be up their but I assume you're thinking more along the lines of all-round packages

When I think about who the better player is, I tend to think of it this way:
If you looked at every team in history, and dropped the player in, how much would each team improve?

The player that would improve teams across history the most on average is the better one (or the best one if you're comparing them with all players).

I think Viv and Tendulkar are serious contenders even though they were only part-time bowlers. Pollock and Flintoff are up there from the allrounders you left out too IMO.

I know you’re not usually a contributor to ATG team discussions, but who makes your odi xi? Is Watson in there?

Kapil Watson Jayasuriya Pollock Flintoff Klusenar and may be Afridi are the best odi all-rounder contenders. Not sure if I missed anyone.

Not adding the answer as an option here since it is only about odis.

In all seriousness Symonds was considered an all-rounder for most of his early career

Darren Lehmann was a very useful part-time bowler. Just looked up his stats averaged 27 with the ball in ODIs at 4.8 rpo, better than a lot of specialists! Wonder why he didn't bowl more, also averaged 27 in Tests and 35 in First class cricket overall.

He really looked like a prank part timer. His success came from the troll. Should've been used more anyway but if he was taken seriously as an allround option he would've been far less effective IMO.

I remember Symonds picking up easy couple of wickets quite a few matches at the end in those years. Still he averaged 37 at econ of 5. No way was he a proper 5th bowler. But a good option to share those 10 overs by part-timers. Symonds Lehmann the Waughs Moody all combined to do a good job for 10 overs between them.
