John Wright new NZ Coach

whitedazzler

good on nz cricket for appointing john wright but would you ever see another international side sack a coach but keep him on as a selector?

screw greatbatch, mortimer and dave curry.

hopefully john wright has seen some domestic talent that can make it at the international level, ya look @ a guy like hamish marshall or eoin morgan in the domestic level they were average but the international level bought the best out of them.

look out for todd astle from canterbury

John Wright has surely been the obvious choice for NZ coach for some time now, and the one thing he is going to need is time and patience. As was said earlier this a young and developing side with obvious potential, but Wright will need the time to harness these players and develop a team capable of competing in Test cricket all over the world.

Where they may expect more immediate success is in one-day cricket where NZ generally have a pretty good reputation of putting an XI on the field that may lack superstars but make up for that in many other areas. A respectable showing at the World Cup would be a decent start.

Pakistan is the more immediate challenge and is conceivably a series they can win, but his tenure will hopefully be judged over a much longer period in charge of NZ.

That's why I'm not a huge fan of the timing. I don't think he can make much difference to our showing at the World Cup, and I hope he doesn't get blamed for that.

He shouldn`t get blamed for that.

Public expectation is at an alltime low anyway for this world cup. Perhaps the lowest since 1991/92 and look what happened then. There is no tactical genius this time, though.

Our batsmen are not experienced enough in India yet and our fast bowlers are basically useless apart from Mills in subcontient conditions so low expectations are apt.
