Surprised at the lack of comment re his making the 49ers squad as it is a massive achievement

What exactly frustrates you about the coverage, that its everywhere or do you find people here pretending they know gridiron/NFL when they don't?

The latter. Plus the uninformed hyping of his performances during pre-season. Pre-season is a joke, nobody decent plays more than 1 or 2 series a game and that's generally only in the first two games. He's playing fantastically but it's against 3rd stringers. The articles and opinion pieces from rugby league journo's saying that he's "killing it" etc are driving me insane. Plus the people who just flat out don't understand how contracts and money work in the NFL and talking about how he'll be making so much more money over there etc. There won't be a year where he makes more money in the NFL than he was making a season over here. Plus it's all non-guaranteed so if he gets cut he basically gets nothing.

Think you'll find that he has been guaranteed well over 100k (chicken feed compared to NRL but most triallists get nothing) plus you can be assured that his endorsements will dwarf what he was on IF (and it's a very big if) he lasts the season

NOONE is saying that he is a bona fide NFL superstar but to downplay his achievement in making it this far is nonsense

BTW, the 49ers cut a British athlete and the NFL has a vested interest in promoting the game in that country whereas there is literally nothing to be gained from handing Hayne a contract unless he can potentially make it

He was on ~1mill a season just from his Parramatta contract alone, then there's endorsements and rep football payments. He could well trump it if he actually becomes a player but if he stays as a specialist punt returners and 3rd/4th string back he won't be living in the same ballpark.

You aren't taking in enough media and public opinion then (and I envy you) as I'm seeing this everywhere. There was an article yesterday on Fox Sports (EDIT: it was the Daily Lolagraph) comparing him to Donald Bradman ffs. I'm not downplaying his achievements, I'm calling out the people who don't understand anything about what he has achieved and he wants to achieve. He has done something that is unprecedented and I am so happy he made the squad. Hell I even took him in the last round of my rather expensive fantasy league last week just for the fun of it. But the coverage of it has been disgusting and horribly uneducated. It annoys me.

Most Oz media = Murdoch = appeal to the lowest common denominator

From what I've read, he is, at best, 3rd choice RB and 2nd choice PR so bit player

Think you underestimate the commercial potential though e.g. east coast of Oz to west coast of US is Qantas' premier route and could quite easily see him becoming a face for them and that pays plenty more than a sponsorship from Joe's Chicken Shop at Burwood

However, given that it never about the coin, I'd say that was the least of his concerns
