its time to end the review system of umpiring

i dont know who the genius was that came up with the review system for correcting umpire error but whoever it was has had the cricketing world hypnotised into stupidity for about a decade.
The obvious solution is (and should have been from the outset) is to have the third umpire review every decision that there was an appeal for.
The whole game is recorded for tv for gods sake. Whats the hurry?
Why delay the game in any way?
If it turns out a player was actually out 3 balls earlier, simply deduct runs scored since and rebowl those deliveries.
Every decision will be perfect.
There will be no complaints.
Which is the way it should have been from the moment someone said - lets check if that was out on the video -
And it would have been but for that genius who came up with the IDIOTIC review system.
i dont know how long it will take to escape its insidious shadow but rejoice, because cricket utopia awaits
( i dont know what this has to do with ash gardner but she is cricket utopia to me so...)

Should abolish DRS and just go back on field umpires making every call, but give them access to all the tools to use at their discretion.

Add in a policy that allows the TV umpire to overturn an on field decision if they find sufficient evidence before the next ball is bowled, and voila all problems solved.

ok but what about even if the next ball is bowled?
so you have to rebowl it, who cares? just rebowl it you lazy bum
whats importatnt is we get umpiring decisions correct

we should start a poll and then tweet the results to lords or wherever such decisions are made.
To me its absolute insanity to either have or to continue the review system.
it has to end
oh i dont seem to have the poll option anymore.
Perhaps i lost poll privileges with the success of the fairy princess poll ( 7 to 1 said yes i can picture broad coming in to bowl in a skirt)

Nah once a ball is bowled the moment is over. Move on. No precedent should be set that allows for balls to be deleted from the records and rebowled under any circumstances. Opens a whole can of worms.

There's enough time during a televised game for the TV umpire to check a decision before the next ball, and if need be the next ball can only be bowled once the TV umpire is satisfied.

The real advancement we need is specialist TV umpires. Drastically different skill set to an onfield umpire, having the same individuals do both interchangeably isn't sustainable in the long run.

ok then but surely you can see my point about the review system itself.
i assumed they already had specialist tv umpires. BBut if they dont yes i agree they should

ye thats annoying and they get stuck every time going back and forth back and forth.

typical cnerd to find a solution that is a) terrible and also b) vests heaps of power in the onfield umpire?

i see this power grab for what it is

I’d just make it so that every time a bowler appealed, it was out. At the end of the innings all of the wickets are then reviewed by TV Umpire. For every one that was in fact not out, 100 runs are added to the batting team’s tally. Much more efficient.
Haha this sounds (and still ultimately is) ridiculous but the fact that you made it 100 and not 40 or something means it's not actually as silly as it really sounds. Batsmen will on average score far less than 100 so you'd not appeal in this situation unless you were pretty sure it was out.

The best batsmen would actually end up being those who looked out but actually weren't. Chris Martin would be Bradman if he could look plumb every ball but actually be slightly outside the line. It'd be hilarious.

cricket is somehow the best of the dominant southern hemisphere sports when it comes to decisions, and it's because of reviews.
The review system is dumb because

a) Players are morons and pointless review things all the time
b) The reviews have to be limited because they're morons, and so you get situations where all the reviews are burned and a bad decision goes uncorrected
c) Umpires don't have the authority to use all the tech available whenever they want to, so they're still making human errors when we literally have all the tech there to correct it.

The easiest and most common sense fix is to let umpires use the tech whenever they want to. That way if there is any doubt in their mind, or if the match situation is extremely critical, they can fall back on the tech to make the right call. It won't slow the game much further because you're saving all the time lost from players making dumb reviews, and you are going to get correct decisions made throughout the game. It also puts all the onus of decision making solely on the match officials, instead of right now where players get criticized for not using the review system well.

Lbws would kinda screw this up a bit. They're way too hard for a human to have better than like an 80% success rate on so you may as well review every one(pulled the number out of my ass but you get my point).

The first time an umpire backed himself on something he thought was plumb, and didn't use the tech, but the ball was found to be slightly going over the stumps on ball tracking- it'd make the whole new procedure a joke

Ball tracking should be generated every lbw shout and quickly harnessed and checked before the next ball, like the front foot no ball overstepping thing we often see now with some dismissals

Your points are valid theoretically but one look at the kind of line decisions they go to the TV umpire for would tell you this will end up with basically every half strong appeal gng to the TV umpire.

And there is a tactical element as well. IIRC, Pooran reviewed a leg side wide for Lbw in the slog overs coz had it brushed the pad,.the dot ball wud have been crucial.

I have always said that they should have implemented something along the lines of what Rugby Union, and to a lesser extent VAR.

Basically it's up to the umpire to recruit whatever technical aids are available to him, at his/her discretion before making a decision on appeals. Essentially expanding what they do for run outs and stumpings across to all appeals.
