Injured /unavailable players who could have changed series

😯😯😯. Some on here consider that pov sacrilege (i dont). I personally think a coat of varnish separates them with McGrath being slightly better. But good to see some on here recognized Ambrose's greatness.
Ambrose is rated highly outside of the newest crop of CW. Imran isn't close.

Given how he went in 1981 and 1989, Alderman would probably have been useful in 1985 if he hadn't got himself banned for going to SA.

I don't honestly think the final result would have been very different, but 1974/75 would have been more competitive if Boycott had been available and Snow had been picked.

Why not both together?

Asif/Gul imo had every capability of being one of the elite fast bowling partnerships. As it was, post Asif exile, too much burden was placed on Gul and he was prone to breakdown and not much of a factor outside of white ball cricket.

There's a reason Gul is in my avatar. He had immense potential, but he was a bowler who needed to be managed much better, and was never going to be Hadleeesque in terms of workload while being successful. Asif/Gul was supposed to be that magical partnership (along with Kaneria/Yasir Shah for more than adequate leg spin). As it was the players with greatest potential rarely played together to synergies as an attack. Asif was key not just because of how good he was but also because his style could go well with the other weapons, kind of like the glue of an aggressive, match winning attack.
honestly i hadn’t ever looked at your avatar closely and because of the stretching i always thought it was just a cool pattern or like a frog thing

on topic though shami’s absence loomed very VERY large in the recent BGT and could have swung it

If shami was there india would have mcg test(aus were 85-6 with lead of 190 on fourth day afternoon session) he would have bowled aussie tail for less then 100 nd we would have chased it. Also would have taken burden off bumrah in previous tests which would mean fit bumrah in sydney and india winning bgt

But Cummins is a clutch batsman , getting him out in crucial moment is not easy as we have seen so many times in recent years (Ashes 1st match, WC 23 semi , WC 23 vs Afg , BGT 2024 ).

I reckon a fully fit shami makes the recent BGT in AUS much closer. The real difference between the sides was the fact that it was bumrah and bust for india; Siraj was decent but the other seamers where shite. Give them Shami and it's a different series IMO.

Serious one now, not going to say Robinson as unavailability has been a theme throughout his Test career, but if Woakes and/or Wood were both available for the whole Ashes 2 years ago we’d have won…likewise if Pope had stayed fit maybe Australia would have won here for the first time since 2001!
