India's Test Bowling Stocks

Hasn't he retired? We can argue that Australia misses Bradman or India misses Tendulkar in the same way.
Yeah but the point is that without de Villiers (and to a far lesser extent Duminy), South Africa are much weaker today than they were against that Australian side.

I think he's been pretty ordinary out here tbh. Even the last tour when India was putting up good numbers and the quicks were firing. Tough place to tour for finger spinners, mind you.
???

He played one match and was instrumental in India winning.

Yeah, Ashwin was really good at Adelaide. Marathon spell, gave absolutely nothing away, picked up a few wickets. That's what you want from a spinner away from home.

Where he lets himself down massively is his poor fitness and from time to time he has an absolute stinker when the team needs him badly.

I am glad Ashwin is trying fewer variation right now. I still can't forget his half tracker leg spinners. Stunk big time.

The **** even hit the like button on the previous post before replying to it. Easy to make the mistake.

Which fast bowler is good for which conditions? We have significant variety. And I feel they should play horses for courses. For example, Ishant is very good in Australia where there is extra bounce. Bhuvi should play in English conditions. Umesh and Shami seem adept in Indian conditions.
Bumrah everywhere

Bhuvi in England/SA and maybe even NZ if the conditions permit.

Shami and Ishant everywhere when Bhuvi isn't playing. One of them should make way for Bhuvi in the above countries.
Curious to hear more about it from others. It seems like Umesh has made a case for himself to be put above Shami in India/Subcontinent in the pecking order.

They have different roles. Umesh competing with Ishant and Bumrah, Shami has no competition as such. Unless Umesh can do something great with reverse swing, that's the way it will remain.

In this test Umesh has been preferred over Ishant which sort of makes sense. Ishant is more effective in Aus, Eng, SA.

Yeah it’s getting tough.

What do you do if you need to play 2 quicks and Bumrah is fit? Yadav still misses out or does Bumrah have to wait for an opportunity to play a home game?

Umesh vs Shami is an interesting comparison at home.

Shami has takes 49 wickets at 23. Umesh 81 at 26. Both strong choices for opening the new ball in Bumrah's absence at home.

After his recent ATG innings we also have to consider what Umesh brings to the table with the bat

As per WTC schedule, India is not playing any home test the entirety of 2020. We may have to wait till Jan 2021 to get an answer to this.
