In other matters, Shardul Thakur has been picked for the Afghanistan Test. Is he as good as the fast bowlers in the team at present? He's been a tad expensive in LOI but never seen him play first-class.
He's Vinay Kumar 2.0

Won't play anyways. We've picked a 15 man squad for a one off test.

Yeah a strike rate of 111 simply isn't good enough in T20. I think he'll make it to the test team soon enough if he keeps up the numbers in FC though.

He's had a couple of very good domestic seasons. But he's been in the India A team quite a few times; and hasn't had an impact at that level.
In the current scenario, to be considered for selection to the test team, a good showing with India A is almost mandatory. FC numbers alone won't get him there.

Andhra captain already so not under-appreciated as such, I would say.

Borges is on point wrt India A.

Shami has been kicked out of the Bangalore test squad on fitness grounds (replacement: Saini)
And Samson is ejected from the India A squad for the tri-series (replacement: Ishan Kishan)

With all the rain and overcast skies in Bangalore, the pitch for the test match looks interesting. There is a fair amount of grass on it right now; don't know if they will keep it.

Also, how the **** does Ashwin keep passing that yo-yo fitness test? He can barely bend to pick the ball up once the match begins.

'Fitness first' India sway to the Yo-Yo beats | Cricbuzz.com

Yuvraj Singh is 35. Suresh Raina is 30. Both have reportedly failed the Yo-Yo test conducted at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and their careers hang in balance. If they clear the test, the selection panel will consider their names for selection and if not, they can continue to toil in domestic cricket. To say, both Yuvraj and Raina are struggling because of their age, wouldn't be a fair assessment.

Ashish Nehra, 38-years-old and with his international career now behind him, breezed through the test while Washington Sundar, only 18 and amidst a purple patch, failed the test.

While Kohli has easily been able to hit the score of 21 in the test, players like Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul too have been exceptional in it, reveals Surya. But how's the score actually calculated? Once the players have started, the score increases 0.1 at a time. "Say a player has started well and has reached 13. When you touch one cone, it'll become 13.1. When you touch the other cone, it'll become 13.2. After 13.9, it'll become 14.1," he explains. "It'll usually last around two to 20 minutes or so.

The current benchmark is pretty achievable. Anybody who puts in a bit of effort can reach that mark. There is nothing earth shattering about it. It only starts getting tougher from 17.5 onwards. There has been a lot of hue and cry about it but it is pretty achievable for most sportsmen," Dinesh Karthik told the Press Trust of India when asked about the difficulty of the test.
No mention of Ashwin's score. Suspicious.

Imagine if they had this back in the day. Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly all dropped.
