Has the Indian team ever been meek since Ganguly? MSD was defensive yes, but he lead them to a WC win, a WT20 win, and number 1 in the Test rankings. You don't have that kind of success being meek. Sure under MSD the team lacked a bit of spine overseas, but that was with an ageing batting lineup full of established legends that perhaps stayed on a bit long, and a pop-gun bowling attack that was unfortunately the best we could muster at the time. In friendlier conditions the side was unstoppable, and we were a much superior white-ball outfit until the end of his reign.
Wasn't Dhoni the guy who originally had the 4 pace bowlers abroad idea? He had to make do with Stuart Binny for that role though.

ishant became one of the best in the world a year or so later

shami has always been hot and cold away from home. so has umesh in the one or two chances he has got.

if you take bumrah out of this team, all we still have are bowlers averaging 25-30 even now with potential like siraj and thakur

think our attack has a long term risk of falling apart without bumrah and ishant playing regularly

Yea here's MSD back in 2014 talking about how India needs more pace bowlers:

Kohli's really not unique in this at all.
Okay, what was the purpose of the MRF pace academy?

Whatever it takes!!!

really isn't as effective as all the hype around it suggests it would be. It's not a lab producing quicks, just an academy where quick bowlers spend some time during their development. There is so much more that needs to be done outside of it to produce good quality quick bowlers.
It is like a top up tuition centre where you can hone your skills. But its not the school.

The reality is we don't kniw what kind of a manager Kohli is

He wouldnt be the first manager who projected machismo and intensity to thw outside world and was actually very supportive to the team. Sometimws the us vs the world mindset can be engaging.

I remember once having to manage a young team with that approach. HR kept asking my group, "why do you want to work with this jerk?" but as a unit we were highly cohesive amd very supportive of each othee.

this seems like a too many cooks spoiling the broth situation with an enlarged leadership. If we pull off a win then Dhoni is going to get most of the credit while if we lose Kohli is obviously going to be blamed. Reading between the lines it seems as though he was asked to step aside for a fresh start after the t20 wc though.
