They were 16 runs ahead with 3 wickets in hand. Creditable perhaps, but not favourable.
India A 319 and 160 for 3

SA 463

That means 16 ahead with 7 wickets in hand, buddy....and that makes it a comfortable draw against an almost full strength top level international team....I would call that creditable....don't know 'bout you....

Creditable I think, although had it been longer than a 3-day game then I'm sure South Africa would have won.

Perhaps. But I can't say I am sure either way. I thought it was a well earned draw. Both teams batted very well in the first innings.

India A actually picked 5 specialist bowlers. I'd back them to defend a decent total.
It so happens some of them can hold a bat.

I love these arguments nobody can win... well not really!

Actually the pitch was a draw pitch if news reports are to be believed. Also SA was probably not dead serious about winning this game.
I'm still happy with the performance of the A team.
Especially so because the people who performed in this match and in the aimless series before are ones in positions the team needs- openers, one replacement middle order bat, seam attack.
Parthiv got his first first class ton
So maybe the objective of the tour was partially realised.

But they were all against STATE SECOND XI . It's like performing against Himachal Pradesh and others. Atleast Salvi and Jaffer did well against SAF .

anil said it was a creditable draw.
Liam replies it was Creditable perhaps, but not favourable.
anil replies with it was creditable.

Gentlemen, that is the strangest argument I've seen in the history of Cricketweb.

Hence it wasn't favourable. So I win. :D
Hey....not so fast, Liam! If there were two more days, India A would've set a target of 300 on a pitch which was cracking up and SA would've collapsed in the 2nd innings!! So there!!! :!(

As incredibly likely as it is that India A would have scored 273 runs for the loss of 7 wickets against an international side and then bowled them out in a day, I beg to differ.

But would it have been a creditable collapse?

Why? I don't think it's impossible...after all they scored 300+ in the first innings....anyway, I was just joking about that. The fact is that it was a 3 day match and the Indian side were in no danger of losing on the third day. Hypothesising about what would've happened on the 5th day is a pointless exercise.
