ICL & BCCI set to talk

NZTailender

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
You'd think a money minded operation like the BCCI could see they could make money from both competitions. Have the IPL run in an international window with all the current international stars, and then the ICL in a time when they're unavailable, with retired and domestic players.

I can't see the BCCI running the ICL. It's Zee's competition and they're not just going to give it to the BCCI without the BCCI giving them some broadcast rights.

Who scratching who's back though?

I can't see how that scenario would benefit anyone really.

A back-scratching situation would be the BCCI undertaking some form of underhand deal to give Zee Test\ODI\IPL rights, and Zee thus scrapping the ICL. But that too would set a dangerous precedent.

Not Terrible
Back-scratching as in, BCCI legitimizes the competition, stops scaring off the players. Zee pays a percentage to the board, and makes sure their timetable compliments BCCI's other arrangements as much as possible.

ICL becomes a domestic-retiree thing while IPL remains a global franchise league. To the BCCI this could mean they get more money for doing no work. Hope this is how it goes, so we can get Bondy back.

But otherwise? ****, things are sailing down the ****ter.

That'd be the real trick. The whole thing so far has been the issue it has because the ICL is direct taking away from Indian domestic cricket. It'd be damn difficult to schedule ICL away from Indian domestic cricket.

That is pretty much the way it would have to be.

Zee pays the BCCI to televise its own event. BCCI legitimises it. It is played at a different time to the IPL and is a secondary league but with its own certain flavour (up and comers and retired big names).

Its a win/win really.

 There's a surprise!

"Now then Mr Chandra, d'you fancy closing down this here ICL?"

"No"

"Well then there's not a lot of point taking this any further"

Whatever it takes!!!
Absolutely spot on. ICL is a disease to cricket. So completely money minded and selfish so that they don't think twice before accomodating the likes of Shabbir Ahmed, banned for chucking. Is this the way they aim to "promote" cricket? And going by their sides, atleast 5 of the XI is reserved for aged foreigners, and the rest made up of Indian FC no-gooders.
So the has beens and the no gooders are NOT cricketers?

From what i have read so far the BCCI just held this meeting because David Morgan told them to do so, and i don't think they were ever serious about coming up with a realastic solution to this issue, so i am hardly surprised that nothing has materalised out of these talks.
