Provisional England squad announced. People already getting upset about the omission of certain players who clearly and self-evidently don't warrant selection.

Looks worryingly thin on LB options, especially given Shaw's injury woes.

Guess Trippier will fill in if needs be.

Tomori probably unlucky too, but we're at least better served at CB.

Trippier's fallen off a cliff somewhat in the second half of this season. Should be taking Livramento ahead of him in all honesty.

None of Henderson, Rashford, Phillips or Sterling being picked could leave the internet almost completely out of targets to whinge about.

I'm sure we'll all adapt swiftly though.

It's asking a lot of Shaw to be playing tournament football off the back of 4 months out injured.

In that context the lack of an alternative left back - even if it's some mid-table jobber who never plays for England again - is a wee bit surprising.

They'll still have Maguire and Pickford to blame for everything, so no worries on that score. Plus the manager, of course.

The old prediction comps have started coming round - I've got England losing in the semis to France I think having beaten Italy in the QF's.

Maddison the first of 7 to be released from the squad, a victim of Palmer's rise really.

Maddison was the first and now the Guardian is saying that Curtis Jones is the second to be cut.

I like this approach of dramatically dropping one man per day in the run up to the announcement, like The Bachelorette.

Grealish and Maguire next out the exit door.

Both down to injuries, apparently, but Shaw's continued presence does slightly give lie to that. Only LB in squad notwithstanding.

I don't think Grealish was injured, just been overtaken by the likes of Eze.
We're in uncharted waters having potentially two Palace players in the side at a major tournament, with Guehi reportedly first in line to replace Maguire. And Mitchell can consider himself unlucky given the lack of left backs.

Only a friendly etc, but England looked horrible in the parts of that I watched.

A country with 6 million male football players loses to a nation of 380,000 total (women and children inclusive).

At the 'home' of the sport.

Loved it.
