-- Kirwan's try against Italy
-- The Australia/France Semi-Final
-- New Zealand winning the Cup and restoring the NZ public's love for rugby -- ironically leading to 20 years of despair.

How we'd kill to have Warrick Taylor and Joe Stanley right now.

I won't say that these are favourite moments, but certainly ones that will stick in my head forever is the second half of the 1999 New Zealand vs France semi final. We simply had no answer.

EDIT: George Smith taking out Marshall in 03, George Gregan taunting Byron Kelleher with "four more years".

- Farr-Jones lifting trophy
- Aus Ire Quarter Final
- Welsh Scrummaging

1995
- Jonah Lomu
- Stransky Goal
-Pieenar Receiving Cup From Mandela wearing a Boks Jersey instead of a suit or some ****

1999
- Larkham drop goal
- Eales Lifting Cup
- The random dude who got in the wallabies photo following WC Win
- Volcano France exploding against AB's in Semi...where the hell did that come from???

2003
- Opening Game (aus vs arg) i was there.
- Aus vs Ire Q/F

Most hated Moment
- Little jonny kicking a goal in final 2003 :@

1987 - France vs Australia. I was just 11 years old but I remember that game very clearly. I remember waking up at 5 or 6 in the morning with my older brother (he was 14 at the time) and my father! What an emotion! Seldom have I felt a bigger emotion. To tell you the truth, I "hate" all french teams... However, France Rugby team has a soft spot in my heart. This match is the reason why!

1991 - Australia vs Ireland. Ireland almost won!!

1995 - Rob Andrew kicks the winning drop vs Australia.

Francis

State Vice-Captain
2003 World Cup

*Martin Johnson's dominance and leadership
*Mortlock intercepting that pass from Spencer and watching that match unravel
*George Gregan, "four more years mate!" I love Gregan...
*The kick from Wilkinson that won the world cup... great drama

1999 World Cup

*Tim Horan gritting out a gutsy, man of the match performance in the semi, despite suffering from food poisening... see he doesn't use food poisening as an excuse!
*Larkham's drop goal... ugly like all his drop-goal attempts, and kicked with an injured leg...
*France blitzing New Zealand in that semi... wish they played like that more often
*Eales threatening to take his troops off-field in the final

That's about as much as I can do since I haven't been into rugby for all my life... but there are some clips that stand out to me.

1995
*Rob Andrew's drop goal - one of my very earliest rugby memories. Thought I might try and watch a rugby game and got a nice ending for my curiosity.
*Lomu... Lomu... Lomu... Lomu... 4 tries. How anybody can knock him is beyond me.
*Jeff Wilson throwing up...
*Stansky's drop-goal.
*The presentation of Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar is quite beautiful, even if I didn't understand it's full significance at the time.

1991

Michael Lynagh's leadership in the Ireland/Australia QF. 4 minutes to go, they need to score, he pulls Campese toward the forwards and they win the ruck, before Lynagh looks to Campese again. He calls a variation of Mark Ella's "Leaguey", which got Campese a try earlier on in the match, only this time Jason Little is held without the ball and it's enough to prevent Campese from getting over the line. There's Lynagh, supporting in the same way Mark Ella supported his wingers, and he gets over the line. Watch the Irish crowds reaction when it happens. I like it how Bob Dwyer later said "I was pleased there was a little Mark Ella in our world cup.

Didn't see the semi-final match in it's day, but the two Campese moments are amazing.

Eales' tackle on Rob Andrew.

From 1987
*John Kirwan's try
*I've only seen clips of the France/Australia semi final, but Grant Fox rates it the best rugby match he's ever seen.

Xenophilia I'd suppose? Although Permster is more of an Austrophiliac for mine.

Anyway; highlights:

- Westerm Samoa (as was) beating Wales (albeit with the aid of a dodgy as hell try) at the old Arms Park in 1991.

- England beating the French in Paris in the 1991 QF; Jeez we had a heterosexual pack back then: Moore, Ackford, Dooley, Teague, Winterbottom, Skinner et al.

- Beating the sweaties in Edinburgh in the 91 semi; IIRC Big Gav Hastings shanked a very kickable penalty close to time & Rob Andrew slotted a drop to take it 9-6 just after.

- Another Rob Andrew drop-goal; this one to knock out the reigning champs in the 1995 QF.

- Being Lomued in the semi; the big fella just ran over the top of us.

- Argentina announcing their arrival as a real force by putting out Ireland in the 1999 QF play-off; Quesada was an absolute machine that night.

- France coming back from the dead in the 1999 semi.

- Will Greenwood charging down Louis Koen's attempted clearance to score our only try v the Saffies in 2003.

- Our pack breaking Michalak's spirit in the 2003 semi.

- & Jonny's magnum opus to make it 20-17, obv.

which one?
theres been at least 4 "the kick" promotions for 4 different players. stransky, larkham, wilkinson and andrews.
I'm fairly certain he's talking about Wilkinson, considering he would've only been a tot when Andrews kicked his.

Stransky - I was about 2 and didn't care
Larkham - Semi-Final? Pfft.
Andrew - Quarter-Final; was again 2.
Wilkinson - Scored the winning goal in the first World Cup I'd ever paid proper attention to, to send England to victory. Which one do you think?

I'm a pretty firm believer that the best team wins the World Cup (well, apart from South Africa in '95, though they were very good) & looking back at those clips from '87 and '91, those have to be two of the greatest teams ever. I doubt we'll see another team dominate a World Cup like those '87 All Blacks did.

-- The All Blacks finally put together a great team after five frustrating years.
-- Rob Andrews' drop goal against Australia. Sweet, sweet payback.
-- Zinzan's audacious drop goal in the Semi against England.
-- Jonah.
-- The controversal final, including the post-match dinner walk out.
-- Mandela and Pienaar.
