Favourite XI

Gayle } not many solid foundations layed, but plenty of fun
Sehwag } while it lasts
Lara - obviously
Tendulkar - ditto
Inzy - for his batting and running between wickets
Ari De Silva - or Laxman if current players only
Sangakarra - for comedy value with his banter/keeping "skills"
Flintoff - brutal entertainment
Akhtar - an exhilarating sight at full pelt
Warne - token Aussie/spinner/drug cheat
Lawson - he'll be back

Look, I had to include Andrew Clarke... I've known him for years. I know he's just a county bowler but he is a friend of my family's. For this reason he's one of my favourite players.
Good enough reason for me! :)

How do you explain his hair though ;)

Fair enough - and while I don't rate him as a player at all his bowling-averages are actually very, very good in both forms.

Find me a bowler who bats more elegantly than Afridi and I will put him in.
1/ Afridi is not a bowler who bats.
2/ Considering that Afridi doesn't display any elegance with the bat, that shouldn't be too hard.

Corey Collymore. :P
Shane Warne.

To name a couple...

Well if Afridi doesn't bat with any elegance, than Warne can't be considered either.

I haven't really seen Corey Collymore bat so I can't comment on him.

I'll replace Afridi eith Boje.

Afridi? Elegant?
Afridi has recently deteriorated into a slogger and nothing more.
He was never elegant or anything, but he was a better batsmen than he is now once upon a time.

I've selected my all time great team from current players that would be sutiable for both forms of the game.

My Team (not in batting order)
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Steve Waugh (c)
Ricky Ponting (vc)
Shane Warne
Glenn McGrath
Jason Gillespie
Sachin Tendulkar
Gary Kirsten
Sanath Jayasuriya
Shaun Pollock
Brian Lara

This team would be awesome.

Here are some stats to back this up.

Test Stats (not including Zimbabwe v West Indies, 2nd Test, Bulawayo)

985 matches between them

Batting
1483 innings between them
54065 runs@42.57 between them
142 100's between them
239 50's between them

Bowling
15794.1 overs bowled between them
40155 runs conceded between them
1604 wickets between them
Average of 25.03
Strike Rate of 59.08
Economy of 2.54 runs per over
75 five wickets in a innings between them
10 ten wickets in a match between them

ODI Stats

2353 matches between them

Batting
1960 innings between them
59854 runs@35.75 between them
108 100's between them
336 50's between them
Average Strike Rate of 76.80

Bowling
10153.3 overs bowled between them
43974 runs conceded between them
1517 wickets between them
Average of 28.98
Strike Rate of 40.15
Economy of 4.33 runs per over
17 five wickets in a innings between them

When I have the time, I'll post my best XI from retired players which will be split into two teams, one team from modern players (I define modern as players begining from the start of ODI cricket & onwards) & another team from players pre ODI cricket.

Are you suggesting Jayasuriya play as a spin bowling all-rounder or just a batsman?

I would play Jayasuriya as a spin-bowling allrounder. His left arm spin would be useful in ODI's in particular.

Which shows exactly why Test's are the only true form of Cricket.
