I'd bat Trescothick at four, replacing Hussain following the announcement of his retirement tomorrow.marc71178 said:It's about 99.9% certain that Vaughan, Strauss and Trescothick will all play the 2nd Test, so who opens, and why?
Also, where would you bat the 3rd of the 3?
No 100 Tests?badgerhair said:I'd bat Trescothick at four, replacing Hussain following the announcement of his retirement tomorrow.
I didn't listen to the interview.badgerhair said:I'd bat Trescothick at four, replacing Hussain following the announcement of his retirement tomorrow.
Having listened to that interview, I can confirm that Hussain's face as he walked through a crowded Long Room was a picture of bliss. Thorpe just looked tired, but Hussain was obviously floating on air, and not minding the claps on his back as he made his way through.
I can easily see why he'd want to have the last bunch of articles written about him in the press to talk about how the hero retired on the highest of highs rather than have to wade through acres of newsprint detailing his selfishness in hanging on for a personal milestone of caps when it was obvious his powers were failing despite what happened at Lord's in May, which is the most likely result of him trying to hang on.
Cheers,
Mike
(I met Neil at lunch. He was wearing a red shirt, in case you want to look back through your videos of the day.)
Is it just me, or has Vaughan actually been in better form that people give him credit for? IMO he looked in good touch in the ODI series against WI and just didn't have much luck. Also, he played a fine hundred in his last Test innings to go a long way to saving the game for his team.Sudeep Popat said:Vaughan hasn't been in the best of forms lately
Yes, but the large scores have been irregular.Mr Mxyzptlk said:Is it just me, or has Vaughan actually been in better form that people give him credit for? It's not just you. Vaughan certainly agrees with you, and I think I do too. His dismissal has just about always come as a complete surprise, whereas when Tresco, Butcher or Hussain fail, it's usual that their dismissal puts an end to their evident misery.Mr Mxyzptlk said:Is it just me, or has Vaughan actually been in better form that people give him credit for? That is a quite staggering improvement in less than a year (well, the second innings of the last test against South Africa, I suppose).marc71178 said:By contrast Harmison is bowling poorly by his own acknowledgement, but is now up to number 2 in the World!
Welcome to CW.Sussexshark said:I can't see Nass being shown the door, not after that performance, so it has to be Giles. To my way of thinking he is far too negative a bowler, spearing it in on leg stump or outside, boring the pants off everyone. When are we going to uncover a really good spinner who will be properly looked after and not taken off at the first excuse?

The bowling I think we can manage........but only just as Jones couldn't take a wicket with the new ball if he tried.Loony BoB said:I would like Harmison and S Jones to open. Please.
Still speaking to his lordship... Apparantly he has had problems logging into the new look forums, and isnt very motivated to do so anyway....luckyeddie said:2. We may never see Rik again.
I wonder why that may be? (cough) Harmison at number 2 in the WorldLangeveldt said:Still speaking to his lordship... Apparantly he has had problems logging into the new look forums, and isnt very motivated to do so anyway....
