We didn't see much overseas cricket during Kirmani's reign, he was fairly untidy in England in 1982 - can't remember why he wasn't on the 1979 tour off hand.
He was dropped, because he was talking to Packer to play in the world series.

It is incredibly ignorant and stupid to say that the only World Class bowler Kirmani kept to was 'Kapil Dev'. During Year 1976-79 almost every Indian spinner enjoyed great success and Kirmani's keeping was one of the reasons for it.

Since this polls asks for a better WicketKeeper-Batsman, I voted for the Ganja. Had it been for better batsman-wicketkeeper, I would have voted for Engineer.

Who played for all or the majority of Kirmani's career was clearly what was meant.

Although not in the same league as the greatest wicketkeeper of all time - Alan Knott
It's a close-run thing between Knott and Blackham for me, with the latter just pipping it.

in many ways Engineer had some similarities in that they both had a reputation for being flamboyant due to their eccentric manorisms between deliveries, Both however had total concentration and their actually style of keeping was simplicity itself - as the best techniques often are.
How wonderful it is to respond to your posts in the knowledge that, as I am now on your ignore list, I shall no longer be rebutted with the inane :laugh:s that, in your venerable dotage, you seem to think so hilarious and effectual. For so well-versed and sensible a cricketing mind, you really are a bunghole. Which is sad, as you needn't be -- but not half as sad as the fact that I am typing out a response to you in the knowledge that you won't read it. Cut.

And to think - Knott wasn't even the best wicketkeeper in the country of his time. Probably the best to a single spin-bowler there's ever been, mind, in Underwood.
It is difficult to think of anyone who even comes close. Healy to Warne, perhaps?

Definitely in agreement with you there NC..Blackham would have to be up there as one of the greatest along with Tallon and Grout who I would rate 2 of the Great Stumpers

Ignore list - no - don't have one - pointless feature for the weak-willed. I read everything that's not written by Richard and choose to respond or otherwise.
Dotage? Well Closey was older than me when he was still playing for England so it depends on your definition.
Bunghole?

Which raises an interesting question: which of Grout, Tallon and indeed Oldfield was the best? I have heard and read much praise for each but have thus far been unable to decide on one myself.

I read everything that's not written by Richard.
This had nothing to do with Richard so that dig was entirely pointless and could only bring more rubbish to this thread. Consider yourself warned - don't bring him up where he's not relevant.

And before you think to yourself, "Wait, Richard does that all the time" - he did get banned for it and hasn't done such since his return.

Cheers.

Kirmani by a nose, since he kept through a couple of transitions (spin quartet -> Kapil + various, tests -> tests + then new ODI s including "that" world cup, including his batting contribution in 'that' match vs Zimbabwe).

Though Engineer would have profited far more from ODIs, Kirmani's the one that did it.
