Diminishing Draft - Simulation

Once again, thanks to Jamee999 of r/cricket reddit for making the excellent Python simulator that I used to run this simulation: https://github.com/Jamee999/cricket

The simulation was for a round robin tournament with each team playing every other team once home and away (match conditions randomly generated) , for a total of 30 matches per team, and 240 matches grand total. I've included all the scorecards below as combined txt attachments, so you can find every match referenced through the summary below. Now here's the summary of the simulation results! :

I just verified the average runs per wicket was 34.73 . Which is a little above par of about 30, or 32 in more modern cricket. Very high variance, but honestly that's cricket innit.

Some of the batting averages don't seem to work: e.g. if Lara scored 2484 runs in 51 innings with 5 not outs, his average would be 54.00, not 50.69.

I wonder if it's an issue with the stats read-out? Because damned if I'm going to look through all 30 of your team's scorecards to figure out the reason, lol.

My team very balanced then - no players on top run scorers or top wicket takers and a record of 13 wins, 4 draws, 13 defeats - can't get more balanced than that!

Digged into the code of the simulator as well. It actually does an era adjustment, and adjusts for low match sample size as well. The thing is genuinely fascinating and rather robust under the hood. :detective

Cool. I kinda had thought it's weaker than it was due to its prevalence to elevate mediums who played 3 tests in the mid 1930s to 600 wickets @ 37 across a career, but yeah cool.

I've mainly played it on altcricket mode, where the above occurs alongside random droppings of ATG bats, a very NZ selection policy towards players under 30, and that one time on-merits-4th-choice-opener Geoff Pullar played continuously to 43! But it is still an excellent simulator (I mean that) and very fun to ~~waste one's life~~ play around on.

Having gone through them, it seems that the averages are right, but the not-out counts are wrong (I thought they looked a bit high).

Incidentally, my XI's average first innings score in our 15 home matches was 527 8-)
