CWXI Selection Panel

As the new board member has been decided upon thoughts are moved towards the structure of the selection panel

I want to see what everyones thoughts are on this.

At the moment the thinking is towards:

Captain
Both CWBCC chairmen
Coach
PA Rep

What do people think?

With there being no possibility of having a non-playing selector (ATM) that has to be the make up of the selection panel.

(note: this is the player speaking, not the chairman father. Schizophrenic much?)

I think we should waive the requirement that was in place and said "the PA Rep should not have represented the CW XI for the last two international series." This is not to suggest that there aren't active people who could do a good job and who haven't represented the CW XI, but the last time it fell down a bit because of precisely that requirement - in my experience (yes, Mørk snr. is still a bit miffed at losing his place on the committee, even though he is set to gain it back :p ). I don't even think we elected a PA Rep in the end.

Technically the coach is a non-playing selector.

Most International sides have four or five selectors plus the captain and coach as advisors. Personally that would be the way i would go, with one or two guys added on as specialist selectors.

Given the nature of the sim and the fact that a non-playing selector is unlikely, I think 3 selectors plus the captain and coach is a fair system.

Andre has been a non-playing selector for a long time now (well hes been getting the emails) and not responding, not sure if he did at first or not, he probably did for a little while and than dissapeared.

Of late the selections have been discussed between myself, Liam, Brendan, Pratyush and Neil - in theory though only Liam and myself have official votes atm with Andre and Reuben not being active.

Yeah, that sounds fine. Fair way to do it. I'm fairly indifferent towards the requirement that the PA Rep hasn't played tests for the past 2 series... don't see the point in it, though.

Isn't Age the PA Rep?

Yes we did. We voted Patrick. Then Age got it by default when Patrick left on his path to spiritual enlightenment...which lasted precisely 3 hours 42 minutes and 17 seconds.

Yeah, might be time to hold new elections. What should've happened after Patrick left is that new elections should've been held, because everyone could've voted for Patrick vs Age, and then when Nath left, he could've been sworn in with 0 votes... in theory, of course ;)

the problem was at the time there were no other nominations.

Actually I think the whole thing was a bit rushed. From browsing through the thread, you, Nath and Towns all received nominations (plus a mysterious nomination for Hoy  ), but despite Towns only playing in 1 of the past 2 series he wasn't included. It's worked out alright, but it's probably time for another election anyway (been nearly 1 year, unless I'm mistaken)

I think the requirement of the PA Rep needing to not be playing for the CWXI would be on par with saying that the selection panel should not be "related" to the CWXI players, if you get my drift. I think it's a silly rule - the PA Rep should be the person that would do the best job in speaking on behalf of the players. So long as they aren't already in the selection panel, of course.

It should be....

CWBCC co-chairmen
Captain (and possibly vice captain, noting that Neil is already involved in selections as it is)
Coach (ie the non-playing selector)
PA Rep

Having said that, I think there should be a re-election... not sure on who I'd vote for though, might end up being for Age anyway for all I know. :p
