Ponting and Lara.

Extremely sad to have to leave out Dean Jones who missed out narrowly as far as I am concerned. Who averages better than both Ponting and lara, scores a fifty plus score more often, is as much of a match winner as Ponting (slightly better) seen from MOM awards and matches played and his strike rate of 72.6 is pretty good compared to 78.5 and 79.5 of the others considering that he played either side of 1990 when scoring rates world wide were much lower and ODI game was played differently in that sense.

Whatever it takes!!!
Ponting
Lara

Deano and Miandad and Inzy are unlucky to miss out. I may want to interchange PUnter and Lara though, to have a right left combination going and to have that DREAM combo of Lara and Viv.

I can't believe people are ignoring Inzi here, surely the second-highest ODI scorer ever deserves consideration? My vote is Inzi and Lara.

Why do you think he is "ignored" ?

Sure. He must have been considered by most people but after consideration one has to make a choice :)

When an all time team is selected, it is always going to be a question of not whom to select but who to leave out. That much is obvious. One criteria I have seen used (it is most suitable for limited over teams) is to chose the better fielder when there is a close contest between two choices. Inzy would lose out on that since a slip is not a permanent need in limited overs.

I'd include Warne over Younis myself, otherwise I agree with your bottom 5.

Joel Garner also deserves consideration, in place of one of the spinners perhaps.

Joel Garner SHOULD be there I think but not at the expense of the spinners viz Murali, Mutthaiah or the Sri Lnakan off spinner, but in place of one of the medium pacer. If we want to have Wasim for variety as well as lower order hitting (valid reasons both) then he must come in to replace Waqar.

But then this is a 'democratic' selection and reflests the majority opinion.

Who says India's five selectors are too many? India is moving to a selection by SMS soon

I think we should keep voting. I would also vote for Ponting and Lara.

So at the moment it goes...

Tendulkar
Gilchrist
Richards
Ponting
Lara

by the looks of it. Not my thread but who cares!

Any more votes for the number 4 and 5 position?

Well done Sir Jeremy !! This was needed.

By the look of it the last six were a HUGE compromise compared to the undoubted class of the first five.

6 = Bevan - although if Hussey continues his form for another twelve months, Bevan might not be an automatic inclusion in these teams anymore...

Any vote appreciated. Just remember it is an ODI XI. Blaze already got you all a test XI.

So it's Bevan 3 and Botham 1 so far.
