Choosing the final four will be extremely tough. Here's how I would break it down.
Keep in mind, at this point the most important criterion is bowling prowess, with batting abilities only serving as an additional bonus.
First let's take a look at the initial contenders for selection.
You've got the two spin masters: Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Then you've got five superb all-rounders: Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, Richard Hadlee and Keith Miller.
Finally, you've got a formidable list of pacemen: Alan Davidson, Clarrie Grimmett, Dennis Lillee, Ray Lindwall, Glenn McGrath, Sydney Barnes, Jim Laker, Fred Trueman, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Alan Donald, Curtly Ambrose, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts and Courtney Walsh.
Here are my four: Glenn McGrath, Richard Hadlee/Imran Khan, Malcolm Marshall, Muttiah Muralitharan/Shane Warne.
I would slightly prefer Hadlee over Imran because of his superior bowling. Also, I would slightly prefer Muralitharan over Warne because he is superior in every statistic apart from # of wickets, which is simply because Warne is older. Now, getting back to the task at hand. For the #8 spot, I nominate Richard Hadlee.
