Let's make an XI of unorthodox players.

1.Dom Sibley
2. BC Lara
3. Don Bradman
4. SPD Smith
5. Fawad Alam
6. MS Dhoni
7. ------ All Rounder ------
8. Wasim Akram (bowling action is not orthodox)
9. Paul Adams
10. Bumrah
11. Lasith Malinga

This unorthodox team would win against most orthodox teams.

Can we say that Technique is overrated?

Tendulkar probably deserves a spot, some of his unorthodox shots include

1. The run down the wicket and big mow to cow corner off fast bowlers. He used to employ this a lot in the 90s with a very heavy bat - which probably was a big cause in his recurrent back issues later.

2. The paddle sweep to spinners.

3. The semi-reverse scoop off spinners to third man - an incredible shot he used to pull off when he was in top form and revealed the playful side of his batting. Used to treat the bat as a spoon here.

4. Run-down the pitch to leggies pitching it well outside leg stump and in the rough. The shot as such isn't unorthodox but to employ it against these type of deliveries was. Destroyed Warne in 1998 with this.

5. The helicopter - before Dhoni, there was Tendulkar. This was used only when he batted till death overs.

6. The cheeky nudge over slips to third man off short deliveries - he used this I think exclusively in Australia. Would crouch at first and looks to leave until the very last moment when the bat would kiss the ball just over his head.

6. The ferocious upper cut over third man for six. Used when he really had a point to prove to the bowler. Olonga and Akhtar comes to mind.

Of course, in between all these he used to unveil cover drives, on drives and cuts to text book perfection as well.

Tendulkar is the very definition of orthodox technique. Dunno what you're smoking. Just because an orthodox player plays a slog to cow corner doesn't make them any less orthodox than playing a block shot makes an unorthodox batsman orthodox.

Tendulkar is an ocean - you could find a bit of everything in his career. That mow over cow corner used to be his go-to shot in ODIs during 90s, especially in the opening 10-15 overs.

Overall, I agree he was an orthodox player. But just that you could select and snitch his unorthodox shots together and you could see a totally different player. I guess that comes when you have played enough to get hundred international hundreds i guess.

Olonga lol
Yeah, the dude had the nerve to sledge Tendulkar, that too publicly, ahead of a final just because he managed to get him out in a match. Anyway as usual Tendulkar didn't speak a word and settled the matter on the ground in the final. Smashed him out of the attack in the first 5 overs
