Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

we need an Abu Dhabi T10 League thread

Don't understand T10 cricket tbh. Surely 11 players is a surplus if you're playing so few overs?

Such an eclectic collection of cricketers in this game.

Pravin Tambe is playing! 2nd best economy rate of the game. Idol.

What an underrated cricketer was Alex Stewart.

Played 133 tests during the worst decade for English cricket. Yet ended up averaging 40 in tests.

Actually, he averaged 47 in the 51 tests he played as a specialist batsman. And not a lowly 35 in the tests as a keeper as well.

Averaraged nearly 40 opening also when serving as keeper. WAG! I think had he been asked to bat at 6 or 7 and given the gloves, England could've extracted the best of both worlds from him. He averaged 70 at no.7 playing as a keeper.

Seems his legacy as usual was determined by his slightly under par performance in Ashes and hence not remembered the same way as some others.

I doubt this list is original, but I haven't seen it before...

Most wickets+catches in a Test series:
51: Sydney Barnes, E v SA (1913-14): 49+2
50: Terry Alderman, A v E (1981): 42+8
48: Bert Vogler, SA v E (1909-10): 36+12
47: Clarrie Grimmett, A v SA (1935-36): 44+3
46: Ian Botham, E v A (1981): 34+12
46: Jim Laker, E v A (1956): 46+0
45: Shane Warne, A v E (2005): 40+5
44: Imran Khan, P v I (1982-83): 40+4
43: Terry Alderman, A v E (1989): 41+2
42: Hugh Tayfield, SA v E (1956-57): 37+5
41: Rodney Hogg, A v E (1978-79): 41+0
41: Mitchell Johnson, A v E (2013-14): 37+4
41: George Lohmann, E v SA (1895-96): 35+6
41: Arthur Mailey, A v E (1920-21): 36+5
40: Alec Bedser, E v A (1953): 39+1
40: George Giffen, A v E (1894-95): 34+6
40: Dennis Lillee, A v E (1981): 39+1
40: Tony Lock, E v NZ (1958): 34+6

If you count the Triangular Tests in 1912 as a single series, Barnes gets in the list again with 39+4.

Strange game for Burgeinho today. Were 2/45 overnight chasing 148. Wet deck today and all out 108. 40 overs left in the day. Opposition then go in and slog for 15 overs, setting our blokes 154 off 23 overs.

Which they chased three down with two overs to spare. Was so weird seeing theee blokes dejected after the first dig and bowling **** in the second. They face themselves no show at all of winning but cruised home. Was a quality chase.

Nah he’s playing Shires Ones this year. He was filthy first innings - was not out over night and got cleaned up second rock today. Felt better second dig - came in at 2/60 odd and made 22 off about 15 to get the required rate down to about 4.5. Good fun batting in those situations cos you’ve got nothing to lose and aren’t focusing on anything but the chase and looking to score.

All-round version of the previous list:

Biggest contribution to a Test series (runs + 20 x (wickets + catches)):
1322: Gary Sobers, WI v E (1966): 722+20+10
1319: Ian Botham, E v A (1981): 399+34+12
1275: George Giffen, A v E (1894-95): 475+34+6
1265: Aubrey Faulkner, SA v E (1909-10): 545+29+7
1202: Jack Gregory, A v E (1920-21): 442+23+15
1149: Shane Warne, A v E (2005): 249+40+5
1127: Imran Khan, P v I (1982-83): 247+40+4
1114: Bert Vogler, SA v E (1909-10): 154+36+12
1104: Gary Sobers, WI v I (1961-62): 424+23+11
1086: Denis Lindsay, SA v A (1966-67): 606+0+26
1050: Tony Greig, E v WI (1973-74): 430+24+7
1030: Ian Botham, E v A (1985): 250+31+8

Interesting that Faulkner and Vogler appear for the same series. Vogler held 8 catches off Faulkner (plus 4 c+b), Faulkner 6 off Vogler.

You do know that the average value for a wicket is about 32 these days? Though obviously less prior to WWI or in the fifties.
