Cricket Bat Mystery

oz_fan

International Regular
From Cricinfo: Rest of the World XI, Lord's, 1970: (back, 1 to r) Freddie Brown (manager), Barry Richards, Graeme Pollock, Clive Lloyd, Farokh Engineer, Mike Procter, Intikhab Alam; (front) Rohan Kanhai, Eddie Barlow, Garry Sobers (captain), Lance Gibbs, Graham McKenzie.

I would say it would have to be Farokh if it was signed by the cricketers from the World XI but the manager's name was Freddie.

Turns out that the bat could be one that is just signed by a number of legendary players at a function somewhere or collected as and when you see players. Most players tend to do this. All those players are commentators so Thommo may have carried a few bats with him and collected those signatures as he travelled around the world. It could be a one off with these signatures on it. So it just may be that this signature belongs to another player/commentator. Taking that into consideration and looking at who was above and below the 'unknown' both being West Indians. Sobers may be the man. Yet to be confirmed. Watch this space!

Think Sobers is a bit of wishful thinking :)

Looking at the first name, i cant see it being anything other than Farokh...

Having said that, this is apparently his signature.

The search goes on

Problem resolved. ANDY ROBERTS is the winner. Confirmed by Sir Richard. Also confirmed that bat is signed by all International Players/Commentators. Just for the record here is a copy of the other signatures on it. A one off bat! Now for the sale......too good to insure!
