Can't belive the greatest ODI bowler of alltime may get pipped by McGrath and Akram....If only you saw "Big Bird" destroy Australia like I did in the 80's :(

it'll be unfair to pit either garner or mcgrath with other bowlers for the last bowling slot considering the huge diff between them and the rest. i think you should choose three pacemen as per the original plan and leave the last poll for the spinner. viv richards and sachin and bevan can roll their arms over if the wicket is a turner.

Well, I tried to do that, but there was a HUGE uproar by some folk that wanted to have two specialist spinners. In the end, I submitted to them.

What if people want two spinners? It would be completely unfair to not allow that option for the voters.

Aight.

Maybe we should just say it's a squad of 12 and individuals can choose who they want as a 12th man.
Coward ;) Warne, Murali & Garner would result in a Garner + one spinner anyway as the non spinner brigade would vote Garner, while the spinner brigade would have split votes.

Besides, it's not a test side, who ever heard of 2 spinners in a ODI side

Just decided to look it up for the sake of NZ's Patel and Vettori team and how it pays off for them. When they play together NZ wins 2 thirds of all ODI's they play (12 to 6)
When they win their tandem average is 20.87 and economy of 4.10. When they lose it drops considerably to an average of 53.90 with an economy of 5.02.

But in those 6 games where they lost they together bowled 10 over spells in every single game (two overs shy of this actually) with a total of 118 overs.

Now compare this to Patel and Vettoris career averages for victories 24.75 and 24.48 respectivally with their economies of 4.66 and 3.95.
For losses their careers read life Patel 42.83 and 5.41 while Vettori is 46.27 and 4.48.

Now lets see what those wins and losses combined are for the Vettori and Patel team...

They average 28.29 with an economy of 4.45
Vettori career 32.95 and 4.22
Patel career 31.53 and 5.01

A great backbone for the Kiwi squad which I would like to see continue for many years to come.

Two handy yet not great spinners working very well together.

And just to add to this I've looked up when Bond Vettori and Patel all play together in the same match, which has happened 15 times and once again NZ have won 2 thirds of those matches (10 to 5).

Bond with them in victory averages 15.76 while without them in victory he averages 15.11 and has an economy of 3.66 with them and 3.74 in general. Also in defeat without them he goes for the figures of 26.48 and 4.80 while with them in defeat a whopping 35 and 5.53 which is very unBond like.
