Brad Hodge in - Jimmy Maher out

Hoggy

Has to be happening soon to the Aussie ODI side. Jimmy Maher provides nothing to the side yet gets game after game after game while at the moment Hodge is averaging over 100 in the ING Cup this year also coming off a bumper year for Leicestershire I think it was.

It's about time Trevor Hohns stops being so biased and choosing NSW and QLD players ad bloody nauseum.

That is all.

Hodge, nah i dont think so, there is a bloke in WA called Michael Hussey who i think should go into the side before him, probably Katich as well (and lehmann when he comes back)

You can't fault Katich's form at the moment but he produced almost nothing for NSW last season (0 hundreds).

Hussey is going to be one of those players that will never make it to the Aus team IMO even though he'd make it in every other team in the world (I'm not being arrogant it's the truth and you know it all you Poms).

Lehmann is going to find it very tough to come back in I reckon but I still think my point stands.

Jimmy Maher = rubbish and shouldn't be ahead of players like Brad Hodge.

I would rather Brad Hodge, Mike Hussey and a few others than Maher.

He is being picked as a reserve keeper as well yet he had barly ever keept in his life up untill last year.

Campbell and Haddin are both way better keepers much more attacking batsman and IMO better OD batsman.

Get rid off him I say his form has been crap for to long now and playing him as a keeper is one of the worst idea's I have heard off in a while.

Jimmy Maher's form over the last couple of seasons has been excellent and he has deserved his spot. No doubt that Hussey, Katich will be putting his spot under pressure. Hodge is having a good year but previous form hasn't warranted consideration. Personally I don't rate him at all. I'd much sooner see Hussey in the side.

Maher was also sent to India to give Gilchrist a break and has kept very well. A specialist keeper like Campbell would replace Gilchrist for games in Australia.

Does consistent form over several seasons count for anything anymore?

First we have a consistent first class performer in Martin Love left out for an inconsistent Simon Katich (before the test) now we have calls for Hodge who can't put seasons together to replace Maher who is consistent season in season out.

SHEESH!!!

Interesting , Maher was initially recalled in 2001/02 to replace Mark Waugh , the reason he was chosen was his superb domestic form over 200/01 & 2001/02.

Since then he has had limited oppurtunities , yet when he's had them he's generally done well (95 & 43* v SAF in 2002) as well as some other handy performances (v PAK in Nairobi & v ENG in Hobart) , he certainly hasnt done anything wrong & for the sake of consistency he should be retained until a combination of him doing poorly & Katich/Hodge/Hussey doing very well occurs.

If I had to chose between those 3 I think Hussey would come next , then Kat , then Hodge.

who ended up making a 50 and taking 6 wickets....

Maher did well when he came back into the squad but since that game were he made a 50 against England in Hobart he has done nothing at all.

Just look at his avrage if you dont beleve me.

besides he is so valnerable to LBW's it's not funny. he falls allover himself trying to play trough the onside when the ball is swinging.

I think that when Maher became backup keeper he hasn't played regular cricket of any kind. Its very hard to come in and be an instant success when you don't have match practice and don't know when your next game is coming. Maher deserves his place as backup keeper for a few matches yet. The others need more than one or two good innings to upsurp him. And then they need to learn how to keep.:P

'Fraid to tell you it wasn't. Hodge averaged a mere 27.73 in the one-day game for Leics in 2003.
Not a bumper year in my book.

Sorry, I forgot Love could provide a decent spin option in back-up.

Look at the 20"Sloggetti" Cup, he did rather well in that. Not to mention his triple ton in the CC. Pretty bumper, just not in list-a OD.

Same with Hodge IMO. If I were to pick Hussey, it would be in the ODI team.

Michael Clarke can do the same thing and IMO he is a better batsman then Katich.

does anyone really care what he does in county cricket.

If he can be a good performer in the Australian OD domestic system with he has been over the years then he is a good player.

Yeah if you go on county cricket form, you can't go past Stuart Law - made over 1800 runs at an average of 90. He's struggling to keep his place in the Queensland side. He's better to watch than both Hussey and Hodge.
