Just thinking after Davey Warner in the Ashes to Warner v Pakistan.

Which other test series performances had huge contrasts of failure then success (or v versa)?

Bradman had his best series average and the next series was his worst. 201.50 and then 56.57

Graham McKenzie in 1969/70. Average 21 in India and 333 in South Africa. Apparently he came down with some illness and could barely get out of bed, let alone bowl.

Larwood surely.
Which series?

Well not counting the one match in the 31 series vs NZ where he didn’t bowl, you have the 1930 and 32/33 Ashes.
3 matches 4 wickets @ 73.00 vs 5 matches 33 wickets @ 19.51

Not really his fault the English weather was... typical. Still counts as non-consecutive series in his records.

Yasir 19 vs NZ to 123 vs SA last year another big contrast.

Most of the biggest are by rubbish bowlers who only played one test in a series. Rawl Lewis reducing his series average from infinity against NZ to 23 against SA while taking a whole three wickets a definite highlight.

Umesh sucked in the one match he played last year at Perth, either side of some excellent performances at home against WI and then SA this year.

Dennis Lillee averaged 16.86 in the home season against England in 1979-80 and then averaged 101 against Pakistan away.

Kohli went from scoring 139 in 10 innings in England in 2014 to almost 700 in 8 innings in Australia later that year.

Oh right I'm getting my years mixed up.

Kohli was immense in that series. Less so in 2018, where he was merely very good.
