Who do you feel was better ODI batsman? I know they had separate roles . But still who do you think was better?

When CA asked current Australian cricketers this question on their YouTube channel 3 years ago, the result was nearly 50:50 . But here it is one-sided for Ponting. Maybe players didn’t want to offend Gilchrist .

Gilchrist for me. Ponting was a top player and more consistent but Gilchrist could turn a match single handedly.

Players like Gilchrist, Sehwag, Jayasuriya etc are a bit underrated in odis due to their role since people look more at averages while rating players. I believe they all would have got a better average if they had stayed in instead of hitting out, which would have benefited them but not the team.
A lot of people just don't realise how impressive a strike rate of 90 was in ODIs in the late 90s/early 00s. It was a very different game back then with bats, boundaries and bowling quality. Put Jason Roy into Gilchrist or Jayasuriya's shoes and he'd be lucky to average 20 the hack
