There is no top 3. All five are too inconsistent (particularly away from home) to be declared better than each other.

At this precise moment I would say it's between South Africa and England. That's not based on the past 3 or 5 years. Just what I think would happen if teams played each other now.

In terms of rankings I think England will move ahead sooner or later. They have more depth and a younger squad than the rest of the teams. Plus I think they're pushing the whole preparation thing to another level. It will be harder for other countries to replicate that.

Not that I agree with Scaly very often, but actually agree with the above. You could argue based on past results that its between India and South Africa based on results over the past 2 years, but when you compare the 3 teams at the moment, I would reckon that England and South Africa have the more well rounded teams. The problem for South Africa is that they are over reliant upon Steyn, if you take him out of the team they arent going to win very many test matches. Yes Morkel has done well lately, but they dont a 3rd pace bowler of note and Harris is a very average spinner.

Good luck Team England trying to win in India and Australia with this team. They were closer to losing the series than winning it in SA.

No we weren't, actually. We were one nil up going into the final Test, even you should be able to work out that it meant we couldn't lose it. Which means we were closer to winning it than losing it.

I don't know when we next go to India but I'm fairly sure we'll beat them comfortably at home next summer.

I never said final test or anything. It is clear who dominated the series overall.

Next time we tour is a long time away, at the moment, with Zaheer and Sree, we'll comfortably beat you home or away. :)

A side which goes into the final Test 1-0 up isn't closer to losing it than winning it though.

You said we were closer to losing than winning, this was factually incorrect. Your posts on that issue are more than tiresome, especially given that I've seen you bring up the defeat in the West Indies plenty of times. It makes me laugh that anyone could argue you aren't a troll, you just subtly probe away with your tired agenda, boring tbh.

India's next tour is next summer...not all that long in cricketing terms

Surely that wasn't the case when England went into the last half hour on Day 5 of the 3rd test :D
No, we were just close to losing that Test and going into the final Test with the series level. That =/= being closer to losing the series.

Of course I was expecting your "You are trolling" call, but I had to wait till 2nd post. Well done.

I thought we are talking who is the best team NOW, and not next summer.

Yeah, I don't have the power to set up a Test tomorrow.

I don't think anyone would beat us in England atm, which is my point.

And yeah when you bring up the same pathetic points over and over (even though they have been repeatedly disproved) then you are trolling.

disproved? By wins over WI, Pak, Ban and an Australian team that got beat by Pak?

Are you seriously suggesting England dominated that series in SA?

Sir Alex, I was also skeptical about England for a long time but when they start winning Tests by 350 runs you have to take notice and give them due credit, it's not just because Pakistan were poor.
