Best Batsmen at different positions !

FRAZ

International Captain
From 1 to 11
My list is as followed .
Its not a dream team but I am making it for what I feel who is the better batsman at the respective position .
1. Adam Gilchrist ( The most fluent batsman I've ever seen and this position is made for him for sure)
2. Mathew hayden (an opener by birth)
3. Ricky Ponting ( the most stylish and reliable batsman made for this most important position)
4. Rahul Drazvid (I've seen many batsmen who are good at re building part of the match but he is by far the best batsman in the world for this position )
5. Inzamam ( No question about it he is a great stroke maker and he is reliable too )
6. Chris Cairns ( a great batsman who is the most valuable batsman coming at this position who can pull up the run rate by at least 2 rpo quickly)
7. Bevan ( Any doubt )
8. Moin Khan ( A match saver and a tight finish specialist )
9. Boje ( I've seen him winning many matches for SA on numrous occasions )
10. Brett Lee ( a usefull Tale ender for this position)
11. Balaji ( gosh , I had to make a choice and thats what came up in my mind . I think this is the best choice ) ...............

Since you're obviously talking in context of ODI cricket, here's my list:

1. Adam Gilchrist
2. Sachin Tendulkar
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Brian Lara
5. Inzamam-ul-Haq
6. Andrew Flintoff
7. Abdul Razzaq
8. Ashley Giles
9. Chaminda Vaas
10. Makhaya Ntini
11. Fidel Edwards

I've stuck to current players, and thus no Bevan.

Too engrossed in trying to do a feature for the main page ATM, so I'll come back to explaining each and every choice later today.

Blignaut used to bat at 10, that is predominantly? I always that he was a #7 or 8 guy, batting behind Streak and Taibu.

7. Taibu
8. Streak
9. Ervine
10. Blignaut
11. Price

Then Ervine performed better with the bat, and it was changed to:

5. Ervine
6. Streak
7. Taibu
8. Matsikenyeri
9. Blignaut
10. Price
11. Hondo

But that didnt last long before they all quit, so Ill always remember Arnoldus at 10.

1. Adam Gilchrist - For obvious reasons...
2. Sachin Tendulkar - Despite a change of style, he still qualifies as the best #2 in the world for me. While earlier, he used to tear apart the bowling by smashing it, now he's doing the same by grinding it.
3. Ricky Ponting - Stylish, yes. But he brings so much more. He's matured into a player, who won't give away a good start as he earlier used to. And if he lasts long enough to be in the middle in the slog overs, he'll murder you. Honorable mention - World Cup 2003 Final.
4. Brian Lara - I was confused as to pick Dravid, Lara or Kallis. But for his sheer skill, I had to go for the Prince.
5. Inzamam-ul-Haq - Great striker of the ball, and since the last two years main stay of the Pakistan line-up and thus more reliable.
6. Andrew Flintoff - No explanation needed, he's my current favorite #1.
7. Abdul Razzaq - He's the best batsman you can have for the last 10 overs. He's a huge hitter, can clear the largest of fields. Honorable mention - Earlier this NZ summer, the final game of the 5-match series, single-handedly took Pakistan close to a target of 300+.
8. Ashley Giles - The best batting brain, among tail-enders. He's almost not a tail-ended.
9. Chaminda Vaas - Can be aggresive or defensive as per the need of the hour.
10. Makhaya Ntini - Huge hitter, just gets a thumbs up over the likes of Shoaib or say... Balaji.
11. Fidel Edwards - Haven't seen much of him, but from whatever I've he's the most solid #11 in recent times.

how anyone can bat the best ODI batsman ever at no 7 and in a thread that is supposedly for best batsmen at different positions is quite beyond me. let alone batting chris cairns above him......

Especially when Flintoff has batted the best at #5 or 6.

I think the point of the thread has been mis-interpreted. One's supposed to pick the best player for a position, at which he has predominantly played.

the last time i checked bevan hadnt retired....could be wrong though
No he hasn't.

But he's not been offered a CA contract, which most probably means that there is a very slim chance we'd see him back, especially in the next 10-12 months...

Bichel has an average of 20 @ s/r 78
Hogg has an average of 20 @ s/r 80
Harvey has an average of 18 @ s/r 88

Giles has an average of 14 @ s/r 58

yes but given that some people will probably never be convinced of flintoffs abilities that isnt a surprise....
bevan was mis-used by the australians, his average at no 4 speaks for itself.
interestingly enough bevan only played 18 games at no 7, so for whatever reasons his selection at no 7 cannot be justified.

which still makes him a current player thoug, hes still available for selection. the folly of the australian selectors does not make him any less useful.

I would just use my world eleven, and stick Andre Nel at number 11, because he is the most worthy 11 in the world!

Yeah but Gileo is human, not Aussie....

McGrath for 11, that's all you need. If you could bat McGrath in every position you'd have a well-rounded batting line-up. He's made the position his own over the years and I think that if you needed someone to go out and grind out a 2 or 3 ball duck, then he'd be your man.
