Murali is Asia’s greatest off-spinner and Kumble is Asia’s greatest leg-spinner. However, Subhash Gupte is probably Asia’s best ever leg-break googly bowler and I think that an attack is generally more potent with a classy Grimmett, Benaud, or Warne like bowler in it.

If Gupte had the likes of Waugh, Ponting, Taylor, and Hayden around the bat rather than the hapless Indian fielders of his day then his average and strike rate would be more like Warne’s because he really was that good.
So you're basically admitting that if Gupte had an ATG team at his disposal even then his stats would have been worse than Murali?

Depends. Would he have played a combined total of 25 tests against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe (like Murali did), or would he have played a combined total of 3, like Warne did?

Doesn't matter, even after removing Bangers and Zimbos Murali's average is better than Warne's :p

Warne's stats against BD and Zim in those 3 tests is worse than his career stats too.

Rookie move by Red Hill bringing up that point in a Warne vs Murali debate. Anyone who's been on the interwebs since the early/mid 2000s should know better, especially those fond of statsguru-fueled player comparisons.

Why would you do that when you can bring up the 'only (total) away performances count' comparison? That's much better for Warne. Noob error.

I'd go for Sehwag instead of Dravid because he offers something that the rest of the 5 in the top 6 don't have. Even though Dravid is a better batsman, there is not much he can do which the other guys can't.

Doesn't the forum rate Dravid ahead of Miandad?

Regarding miandad and dravid, it's close. Dravid definitely better up the order. But lower down the order probably miandad
