Australia's 25 Contracted Players - Announced Shortly

International Coach
As expected, apart from the exclusion of Cosgrove.
I sensed that he would become a key reserve in the upcoming year, but perhaps not?

Im floored that Kaspa made it again.

Great bloke, but didn't look the part in South Africa.

Thought Cosgrove might have made it ahead of him.

I thought Hodge might be left out, but good on him, he made it again. Poor ol' Mick Lewis, the guy gets worse news every second day.

Official site and they still can`t spell 'Jaques' properly.

Johnson perhaps a bit lucky.

Worst of the lot is he's got to go and play in Durham all summer.

I don't know that is the best reason I could think of.

Maybe they have a thing for him ever since Dennis Lillee waxed lyrical over him about 5 or 6 years ago in Inside Edge and when he has been fit for two and half minutes?

Well he does because he signed the contract. You make it sound like he was forced to as some sort of punishment  :p:-O

Maybe it is...

Fair enough, I just thought Johnson was a bit lucky as there are many other young players with potential as well. I still think Dorey can be a huge force, he bowled excellently in the last One-Dayer against Bangladesh, and he was incredible for WA.

Dorey did bowl well in the last ODI against Bangladesh, but given his age (ie: not especially young) and longer form specialisation it is hard to see him playing in the next 12 months. Johnson however almost certainly will, given that he played every game in Bangladesh and did rather well. Much like Cullen, he is being selected as "next in line" material.

The baffling inclusion is easily Kasprowicz, while leaving out Cosgrove seems like a strange move.

Virat Kohli (c)
I'm not a particular fan of his per se, despite being a Victorian, but boy am I glad to see Hodge kept his contract. He didn't deserve to be dropped, let alone no longer a contracted player.

yea definately glad to see Hodge keep his contract since i can definately see him being apart of the australian middle order in the next couple of years TBH. Kaspers inclusion is definately strange but not surprising.

I don't mind Hodge and Kaspa getting contracts. Both have been great servants for Australian cricket, if only at domestic level. They have earned it.

Heck Nathan Hauritz looked promising at one stage and flew town with like $400,000 in WC bonuses and CA contracts. Lucky bloke.

Reward for Pura Cup form? Although that is flawed as Cosgrove didn't get one and we all know many runs he got...

While it is a little surprising that Kasprowicz held on to a contract, if he didn't get injured in South Africa it is highly likely that Gillespie wouldn't have even been considered for a contract. I doubt being without a contract is going to harm Cosgrove's chances of future selection. It's not like you need a contract to be selected for Australia. He knows he's on the fringe and if he keeps scoring runs he'll get selected.

I think Dorey would need to perform pretty well the next few times he's chosen for Australia (if that happens), I wasn't that impressed with him in the games he's played. I find nothing more frustrating than watching an extremely tall bowler trundle in and dobble a few down. He needs to be a lot more accurate if that's how he's going to bowl. I'd rather he busted his guts and snapped in half like Bruce Reid and then we could all just get on with it

Cosgrove will be told to lose some more weight and get himself right for possible WC selection.

White is a complete hack, has been overrated since day one. Typical of Victoria's complete obsession with replacing a once in a generation spinner.

Lewis is being punished for one poor game where no bowler did well, but to be honest he is very much a fringe international. At the very least, he's played international cricket, which is more than some of the "experts" on this forum can say.

Unlucky to miss out were Birt, D Hussey and Haddin. Australia had better pray that Gilchrist plays until he's 40.
