Australian test selection thread 2015/16

County deals used to be 6 months but we're changed to 12 months,to cover players, and if say a player wants to play grade in Australia,South Africa or somewhere else they have to get permission from the county. For example Glamorgan allows Michael Hogan to play for WA,he has to get their permission first, and good on Glamorgan for letting him do that.Mark Cosgrove is different he has a 3 year deal with the Redbacks, and he signed with Leicestershiire after that, don't know if leicestershire can block him for playing for the Redbacks legally.(it might end up in the courts i dunno)As far as i know Tom Cooper comes off contract for the Redbacks at the end of this season. He is a free man.

Lets forget Cooper now he is English as far as I am concerned screw him, hope no state offers him a contract next year.

Joe Burns definitely the incumbant and we must offer him a contract, before some brightspark county offer him a million dollars. He turned his back on IPL hopefully he turns his back on being English.Where has the loyatly gone.

I was just thinking that after the ashes there is a pretty good chance that we play an XI vs Bangladesh consisting only NSW and WA state Cricketers.

NSWWA XI
Warner SMarsh Smith Clarke Voges MMarsh Nevill Johnson Starc Hazlewood Lyon

Will be interesting to see who packs up/gets dropped after the ashes. We know Rogers is going but I doubt he will be the only one.

Rogers $1.01
Haddin $1.85
Watson $2.50
Harris $3.50
Clarke $15.00

I haven't thought about this THAT much.

rad haddin will retire after the ashes i think.
shane watson wont retire but would definately have to up his input by a notch to stay and i dont see that happening. They will prefer the younger man and go for mitch marsh.

So no different to now (Rogers and Harris born Sydney)

I think that side is the most likely post Ashes squad N00fers. Smarsh looks like he's grabbed the jump on Burns for the Buck's spot. If Voges holds his form he will be given a few years.

About the only guys I can see pushing for that squad barring injury as Maxy (cause they have such a hard on for him) and Patto/Cummins.

It's not his fault; he hasn't done anything wrong. It's basically a security issue. Hoping to get it sorted eventually.
This is kind of intriguing. Can you say more, or can't you say any more?

last time these two opened together, marsh took the first strike.

eugh Ive always thought both S Marsh and Voges were mediocre

Phil Hughes would have had, for the first time in his career, a walk-up start into the team when Rogers retired. Godammit

I expect Australia to lose the Ashes either tonight or tomorrow night barring a complete and utter batting miracle or downpour of Noahish proportions. After the 5th Ashes test, our next test is against NZ in early November. Ponting has stated today that he thinks we could lose half our squad at the end of this series, although that seems a little bit over the top. Rogers has already indicated he will go, Watson might be done, Haddin most certainly is, Clarke's back seems shagged out completely and I seriously wouldn't be surprised if he pulled the pin, Voges is pretty old, SMarsh is old-ish and inconsistent, Harris is done, Siddle is probably done and Mitch Johnson might only have 2 or 3 series left.

There will more than likely be an openers spot avail (although the selectors should plead with Bucky to play the home summer) and quite possibly a middle order slot or two. Who'd people like to see brought in? I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Joe Burns, and it's interesting that Khawaja's captaining the A team as we speak.

Ideally, Bancroft (with a decent start to the shield season) Burns and Khawaja even though his four day game seems to be regressing a bit.

As for what will happen, guarantee the less talented Marsh and Watson will be in the order for a few months yet and Rogers will be begged to the point of bribery to stay.

Sure feeling bleak.

Fair bit of scuttlebutt around the web that Clarke will actually finish at the end of the series. Haven't seen anything remotely official though.
