Sure, but generally blokes get scouted because they’ve made a bit of a name in grade taking wickets.

Holland doesn’t turn them at all tbf, but if this bloke was in the running he’d be taking poles at the next level down Wouldn’t he?

I mean, maybe he is, and I haven’t followed him

Grade record doesn't look all that special.

22 isn't old for a spinner so maybe he'll be the answer the tour after the next (but probably not)

That's why I used the word develop, Jon Holland is Victoria's favored FC spinner. He at best is a serviceable option at first class level, but he hardly brings anything to national equation so scouting for more options is the only way to improve depth.
The biggest reason this wouldn't happen is because he isn't actually in the Vic grade setup anymore

If the pitch is a flat road then sure, if it's a dust bowl in the sub-continent then that might change.
Sure but you could say that about any spinner. Can't imagine any Test conditions where he would be better than any of 100 other spinners in the country.

But that's the thing, you can't bowl your normal coached version of spin on Asian decks and hope to get results.

Champion spinners like Warne and Lyon have struggled there whereas a guy like Steve O'Keefe took 12 wickets on a dust bowl in Pune to win a test.

Clarke took 6 for literally nothing on another tour. You have got to be quick off the surface to negate slow nature of those pitches and a bowler like Hatzoglou will be handy there, regardless of what his current achievement say.

Steve O'Keefe was the best red-ball spinner in Australia for virtually his whole career. Wasn't exactly a shock that he had a good game

Jason Krezja too took 12 wickets in just one game in India. The point isn't how good you presumably are as a spinner in terms of numbers, because let's be honest unless you are great at using pace and bounce as a spinner, Australia is arguably the worst place to bowl spin in the cricket world.

So picking and investing in guys who will do a job in those conditions is important, because give or take Lyon despite being the best all conditions spinner in the last five years has looked pretty ordinary in the sub-continent at best of times.

Krejza's 12 wickets went for like 300 runs didn't they lol
If I am not wrong Cameron White was the first choice spinner on that tour. Any who Krezja in general was a piss poor bowler all along, but he used to undercut his offies which helped in taking all those wickets on a dusty surface. The great Shane Warne took all of 14-15 wkts even on a successful tour of India in 04.

Overspin and loop really don't work on modern day sub-continent pitches, because tracks are so slow that batsmen can play off the pitch. So spinners who can negate this, can only succeed there.

I think you're oversimplifying it but you make some good points. Hatzoglou would need to completely rework his standard leg break first of all to be a viable red ball option though, IMO

If by completely reworking his leg break, you mean his leg break needs to spin big then that beats the purpose of developing a bowler like him for sub-continent.

Unless you are a freak like Rashid Khan your ripping leg break would just get stuck in those slow surfaces giving batsmen ample time to cut or pull the same ball.

Kumble is probably a good role model for him to follow.
