Australian Domestic Season 2017/18

How long can one coast on a few half centuries?

Honestly, take out the 200 on the WACA road and suddenly Bancroft's summer has had 4 half centuries in 4 shield games and 6 tests. Alternatively look at his test record. He's had two half centuries in 6 tests since he was picked at an average of 26.

Renshaw in 10 tests has an average of 36 which includes 6 tests in the subcontinent where he was our second top run scorer in India.

How long do the two half centuries against NSW count for Bancroft? How do they count more than Renshaw's ton against Pakistan and half centuries in India?

Maybe CA is more concerned with giving Bancroft an extended run so that he can get good so when Warner retires we have a decent opening pair.
There's one factor you're missing: Langer. He already seems to have some influence on selections and is very much next in line to be coach. I know Bancroft's only scored on roads.

Love that Renshaw has come back but dropping him in the first place was just nasty. Yeah he wasn't in prime form but that he's come back so quickly shows you he wasn't too far away either. Hated the message it sent at the time and now that Bancroft hasn't kicked on, looks even more hasty.

Clean out at NSW,obviously a leak.
Get some New South Welsmen back ?

Khawaja, Doran, Tremain, Bird ?

No one really sticking a hand up in futures games just finished. Maybe a bit of Lenton.

Suppose if they gone the Uppal route they will invest in J.Edwards and Sangha.

A couple of retirements already.

A lot of players not really knowing where they are in their careers ? For various reasons like experiencing highs and middling out or not kicking on from futures.
Maddinson
Henriques

Somerville

I promise I'm not trying to steal midwinter's thunder, but Renshaw is the only batsman with 3 centuries. Another interesting stat is that there is only 36 runs separating the top 6 leading run scorers.

On current form it wouldn't surprise me if he tops the season runs. Bancroft must be feeling the pressure.

Khawaja would be too.

I agree with TC re:Travis Head. When it was stumps on day 3 I knew there would be a big chance that Head would perform on the final day.

Btw Hughes and KPat continue to have similar seasons.

Strange isn't it, none of the batsmen have been particularly hungry this season. Half finished meals wherever you look.

Hemphrey has been pretty good too.

I think the change to the duke ball mid season definitely finds out some batsmen.

I think Uzi is in more trouble than Bancroft. He doesn't get much rope on tours.

Yep agree, thats why I mentioned Khawaja.

Victoria vs Tasmania is going to be the big match this upcoming round, almost certainly the winner of that match plays QLD in the big dance.

Why?

Khawaja has at least proven that he can be good at home. Nothing Bancroft showed so far suggests that he is international quality

You'd have to think there's a good chance of Maddog moving to Vic given he's going with the Stars, but I'm not sure we really want him tbh

Burgey will call for #Bertmentum all he likes, but he'll never displace the #SuperNev

I'm all for him as a specialist bat though -- especially if Mad Dog goes, there's two spots available (well, only one if they go full NSW and pick 5 bowlers + Moises)
