I think add 3 out of Maher, haurtiz, bichael and Blewett to Australias current VB squad and that will be the world cup squad.

nah rik aus are looking for a good ARer, watson has looked far better in FC than in OD and he has not done much in the ODI's that hes played in

WHO I WOULD PICK

Gilly (vc)
Hayden
Ponting (c)
Martyn
Bevan
Clarke
Lehmann
Lee
Warne
Gillespie
McGrath

Maher
Blewett
Noffke
Bichel

Note that there are 4 bowlers in the main 11 Lehman, Clarke, Martyn, Ponting and Bevan can all bowl - they can find 10 overs in there somewhere - Probably Clarke and Martyn and Lehmann for spin

Agemaster have some Faith Watson will be fine he is improving his one day cricket.

As a batsman its not like he doesent have the shots (hes just been a slow starter)
But even thats changing he made a quick fire 40 in the last ING game and looked really good.

His bowling is still improving I can see him doing pritty well over the next few years.

ohh yeah dont get me wrong hes a great player, but i think players should be chosen based on ability, at the time, not potential, players still developing should be kept at first class cricket till they are ready, although aussie domestic cricket is harder than international level these days :lol:

Yes but Australia want a bowler, not a spinning all-rounder...
As back-up to Warne? You won't need a second spinner in SA (unless you're India possibly) so you want to take someone who can fill in a couple of overs here and there and bat well, which MacGill isn't.

Which explains his awesome record as a player, especially when you consider, that while gifted, he's not anywhere near as gifted as his brother (for instance) yet compare their career records.

id say lehmann would do that job, but i dont think hes good enough to bowl more than 5 overs every match.

A back up WK will not be required as a repalcement can be sent over.
I'm not sure what the ruling on this is, and anyway in that case, the player won't be acclimatised?

Could this mean Langer is going to go, or is there someone else who can don the gloves in an emergency?

No back-up keeper will be taken from any country I don't think. Think about it Australia have Ponting and Martyn who can keep, New ZEaland Vincent, England Trescothick, Pakistan Umar, Sri Lanka Mubarak etc etc.

Teams can't afford to take a wasted player when picking 15.

I guess India might take a back up, but then their back-up will be a specialist whilst the first choice is a "filler in"

Actually, I wonder if AA can keep wicket?

If you look at the probible squad though you will see at least half of them can bowl so all they need is 4 bowlers. Also White hasn't shown much in Domestic Cricket so I doubt he will be picked too.

Just to add White's OD Stats:

7 Matches, 5 innings, 10 runs at an average of 2.50 and 1 Wicket for 181 runs at an average of 181.00! And that's enough to get him into the World Cup Provisional 30? Looks like even I might have a chance soon enough

My stats: 2 Matches, 3 innings, 55 runs at 55 and 5 wickets for 26 runs at an average of 5.2 :D:D:D

You reccon I've got a chance? ;):lol::lol::lol:

My Econ is just under 6, and his is 6, but my matches only last 16 overs

hey rik, did you skipper an u/19 world cup team ... didn't think so, he is still only 19, also, he has played 2 matches where he has been 2nd spinner to shane warne this year and has played on a spinners wicket like once this year, you have not seen him play, i and others have, he is a class player and will no doubt play test cricket at some time in the future
