Batting till 9 and 8 bowling options with 6 all-rounders in the team. Shapoor and Davey to open with Murtagh and Odoyo to follow. Collins Obuya and Dockrell to then form a spin partnership. Naib and Cheema can bowl if required.

Cheema and Odoyo can strike hard while the others in top 6 play long. Plenty of experience there with all of the top 8 having captained their countries for a long time.

I certainly broadened my knowledge of ODI players doing this draft. Quite happy with the result, even though I didn;t cast my net as wide as others.

The openers are proven bats with centuries to their name. The side bats strongly down to #8 and the tailenders are quite capable of runs if required.

Paul Stirling will captain the said as he has a 100% win record (from limited opportunities).

There are 8 bowling options with 5 medium to medium fast including Netravalkar who offers left arm variety at a good economy rate. The side has 3 spinners including 2 ‘offies’ and a ‘leggie’. Both Stirling and Singh were named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year (2021).

Happy with my lineup, star power and an inspirational captain in Ranatunga who can contribute with bat and at this level even more so with ball. Very happy with my top 6 and also good batting depth with only Naveen-ul-Haq not being somewhat adequate with the bat.

Bowling lineup perhaps lacks the star power of some other lineups but have unconventional left arm wrist spin in Michael Rippon who also averages just under 29 with the bat in FC Cricket and under 32 in List A cricket. Mohammad Rafique a 125 ODI stalwart for Bangladesh provides our other spin option. Naveen-ul-Haq without the longevity but has started promisingly in ODI cricket for Afghanistan and is partnered by experienced and capable seam options who can also bat in Khaled Mahmud and Trent Johnston - the former's record arguably better than it looks given the number of games played against full-member nations.

The writeup:

Solid opening pair for Kenya who both relatively consistently notched up WC fifties against test nations. Ravindu Shah's cricinfo profile mentions after his '03 performance where he was Kenya's leading run scorer he was being talked about as the best batsman outside of test cricket. Otenio was up and down but kept finding ways to peel off good 50s against sides such as India, Sri Lanka, Australia(in '96) etc.

Roy Dias was Sri Lanka's greatest ODI batsman until Ranatunga and De Silva hit their stride. He had a respectable return against test nations at world cups as well as 3 test centuries in a small amount of tests.

David Hemp was a very solid county performer with 30 tons who's one WC brought a good knock against India, Bermuda's only notable batsman.

Odumbe was only slightly behind Tikolo, and got a MOM performance in each of the '96, '99 and '03 WC's, showing he knew how to hang with the big boys

Berrington is a Scottish batting staple who also bowls handy pace.

Kevin Curran had a great domestic english record as an allrounder without getting the chance to shine much internationally. A budget Mike Procter.

Somachandra was arguably Sri Lanka's greatest spinner before Murali

Eddo Brandes is worthy of Zimbabwe's ODI ATG XI and has a good ODI record against test nations, maybe the most distinguished quick available in the draft. Took 11 ODI wickets @ 9 against England.

John Traicos doesn't have the best record but he was a good fielder, notably tight offspiner and a super experienced journeyman and option for captain.

Boyd Rankin is well known as one of the best associate pacemen and was good enough to play tests for England.

Scrap out a decent score and then let the two leg-spinners do the rest, not a bad way to go in associate cricket. The two lead pacers are not bad at all either.

Enjoy the mix of some journeyman types from the traditional nations to go along with the best players ever from Afghanistan, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong.

The strength of this team lies in the aggressive pace attack and a very reliable middle order. I believe each player from no.3 to no.6 played a lead role for their respective batting units.

Openers have the freedom to play their natural aggressive cricket with experienced heads stacked up in the middle order.

When it comes to bowling,

Hamid averages 22 with the ball at a S/R of 29, Dawlat 29 @ S/R 32, Young 25 @ s/r 28.

Duncan Fletcher is the guy who was at the heart of everything Zim did to beat Aus in the 1983 WC. A master tactician and a wonderful AR.

Zeeshan Maqsood averages 21 with the ball at a s/r of 32 in both LOIs and List A cricket. Amazing record to have for a spin bowler. And an amazing spin option to back up the aggressive pace unit.

7. JJ Smit (2)

9. Peter Rawson (1)
10. Chad Soper (5)
11. Amir Hamza (4)

The top order batting oozes quality with the Anshuman Rath (now playing FC in India) up top and the Associate Legend that is Ryan ten Doeschate anchoring the middle order. Alongside them, indisputably Namibia's best batsman - Craig Williams - comes in at three. Queenslander and part-time Dutchman Peter Cantrell opens alongside Rath. Cantrell did score some hard-earned runs before the Netherlands gained ODI status, including a valuable 43 not out in the famous Dutch defeat of South Africa in 1994 (https://emergingcricket.com/columns/ec-rewind/when-the-dutch-walloped-south-africa/), 34 against the Pakistanis - facing Wasim and Waqar whilst opening in 1992, 64 against England in 1994 in another famous Dutch win and 253 runs @ 63 (including a ton and two 50s) in the 1994 ABN-AMRO trophy against Kenya and the UAE.

Experienced County player and Scotland middle-order bat comes in at 5, with Canadian keeper Bagai at 7.

The come the all-rounders. Two Namibian left-armers with useful batting prowess come at 7 and 8. JJ Smit now bats in the top order for Namibia and should do well at 7 in this comp. Rhodesian right armer Rawson comes in next, and will open the bowling alongside Smit. Rawson didn't play many ODIs for Zimbabwe, but his quality in first-class matches for Zimbabwe and Natal, as well as an extensive List A career demonstrate the statistics to match his ability. Certainly one of Zimbabwe's greatest bowlers, and a more than useful bat as well. Chad Soper from PNG provides a 4th seam up option, again with some more than useful batting and Afghanistan's Amir Hamza completes the line up. His ODI/List A batting stats aren't good, but he can bat - but hopefully shouldn't need to here with the batting depth available. His SLA will come in very useful, with additional spin from Rath and, less usefully, Machan to back him up.

Cricketer Of The Year
Thanks a lot, @Magrat Garlick @Teuton and @Line and Length . And sorry for throwing a tantrum earlier in the draft. I was clearly in the wrong there.

Also, this was 11 equally good teams. The votes could have gone to anyone and they would be equally deserving. I personally found it very difficult to vote to any team due to this.

Thanks @Teuton for a nice draft. It enlightened all of us to some new names that we weren`t aware of.
