It seems that, by virtue of being on the receiving end of so many test match series for the ages, that this might be the case.

What do you think?

I actually like Tim Paine. He is competitive and gutsy. Sure he said something which has smacked him in the face a few weeks later. But he has made the Aussies on the whole harder to beat

You cant really compare him to Waugh, Taylotr, Border & to a less extent Ponting. They largely had better squads in a better era.
What the hell are you smoking? Border had way worse squads than Paine. He only had himself and Boonie as batsmen for much of his tenure. And his bowling attack was lead by Craig McDermott who has a similar average to Starc.

This squad has Cummins and Hazlewood, Smith and Labuschagne, which are four players at Paine's disposal who are better than anyone except AB himself.

This squad has the talent to win, but not the plans or drive.

You can't take Tim Paine's sledges to the heart, he always has that cheeky grin while sledging, enjoys getting under the skin.
