Another scoundrel allowed relief in the sub continent

Pakistan continued in the tradition of the sub continent to let villains 'out' and then let them claim vindication and innocence. The latest scoundrel to join this list is the match fixer to beat all match fixers - Saleem Malik

SJS, doesnt Malik come from an influential family?

Pathetic. Though it has come at the cost of his career. So I don't think young Pakistani cricketers would be too tempted to follow it.

Threads like this infuriate me especially the name calling. The guy served his time, was banned for close to 9 years. It is ironic that he was banned for bribing Shane Warne and Mark Waugh (according to Cricinfo), those two guys are cricketing legends for taking that bribe and he is a scoundrel. Such Double Standards.

No evidence that Warne and Waugh took anything I'm afraid but plenty that Malik was one of gambling's ring-leaders

So you want Malik to be legended also?

Aye it's the plain "devil trying to deviate the innocent lambs to sindom" story.

Yeah..No evidence..ACB had fined Waugh and Warne for giving away information about weather..wait..we have discussed that to death already..and almost all the aussies believe the ACB version...

If Shane Warne and Mark Waugh were Indian or Pakistani, you would have demanded execution, such is your objectivity on any matter related to subcontinent.

Hindustan Times said:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) lifted the eight-year-old ban on Malik, paving the way for him to play in the non-sanctioned Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Malik said ICL chairman Kapil Dev gave him an offer to play in the ICL.

"He (Kapil) has offered me to play in the ICL, though I have not decided on it yet," he told reporters.

Malik, 45, said he was out of cricket for eight years and this may not allow him to play at this stage.

Why should anyone be fined for talking about weather? ;)

You're talking about 2 separate incidents but dont let the facts get in your way

BTW, where have I ever said that Warne and Waugh didnt get off lightly or that ACB's handling off it was shameful?

Think before you type

Yep, Warne and Waugh got the heavy punishment called "fine". And Malik, Azhar etc got relatively smaller ones, "Life Ban".

Warne and Waugh were given between $2000 and $15000 by a bookie in a casino in SL

They were fined those amounts and the whole thing covered up

Did they get off lightly? Yes

Were they incredibly stupid? Yes

Malik offered Waugh, Warne and May 135,000 POUNDS STERLING EACH BY MALIK during a test to underperform in the same year.

Is 135,000 POUNDS STERLING supposed to buy something more than weather? and that's one of the many reasons why Malik was banned for life

Waugh and Warne showed weakness and that is probably why they were approached in Pakistan

Malik is a crim

That Malik is a criminal is undisputable. But that doesnt make Warne or Waugh lambs either.

The guy was the biggest 'king pin' from inside the game. This is well recorded and I am not going to go about quoting the innumerable cases/instances just to debate those who either do not have a clue as to what they are talking about and will not take the trouble of acquiring the information widely available in the form of published/recorded stuff (besides what you can get on the net) OR are just going to say something to the contrary ro make their presence. Sorry I dont bite that bait.

Coming to what has happened. Malik was banned for life, much like India did to Azhar. Now when the guy wants to open a cricket academy he may be finding his being banned from having any association with Pakistani cricket coming in the way of his commercial ambitions. I do not know far a fact but can make an educated guess.

One of the biggest problems in starting a cricket academy in the major cities in India (or Pakistan) is the availability of space. If you want to buy it, it will cost the moon. So you either get a bank or a financial institution to loan me the amount at modest terms or you get some Govt body/institution to let you have access to land virtually free as has been done in India too in the past. Another possibility is for one of the schools or colleges with a cricket ground to allow you to tun your academy there (doubt if he is doing that though) and again the ban makes it difficult for an educational institute to give him access.

So what does Mr Salim Malik, or any other person in the sub-continent with influential contacts, do. Just meet the right people and get the ban reduced. How long will the furore over it, if any, last. People will forget and the cricket academy, they is big business in the sub continent, will be bringing home the bacon.

The match fixing was about money above principals and so is this.Thats all there is to it or to anything else connected to cricket in India and Pakistan.

AWTA.

However, Malik being a Pakistani couldnt buy property in India anyway to start an academy. If at all he really wanted to, he'd do in the name of a binami, given his contact. don't think a ban would make things easier or difficult there, except of course in branding it.

Maybe, my dear but its not relevant as far as letting Salim Malik go scot free to start making money from cricket is concerned.

By bringing in what Waugh and Warne did we are , unintentionally in your case as is clear, just minimising the seriousness of this 'criminal' act of collusion with crooks by cricketing authorities. It also tends to give the impression that what Malik did was no different from what Warne and Mark Waugh did. It is no one's case, howsoever much they may denounce the two Australians for what they did, that this is indeed the case.
