Sri Lanka in Bangladesh: 2022

Bangladesh squad named. Shakib is in. The pacemen who bowled well in SAF are dropped, so we may see a filthy, low slow turners.

Sri Lankan Squad not yet finalized. But Thirimanne has been dropped, and Roshen Silva is drafted in. The ambidextrous bowler and millde order bat Kamindu Mendis has not been included in initial 18 man squad. If it is played on a filthy low slow turner, and Roshen Silva plays, a double century is on the cards. Roshen shouldhave been a part in Indian tour too. A rare modern SL player who play spin with utmost ease.

So Thirimanne is a total waste of space for nearly a decade, he then scores runs and now they drop him. I know he didn't score anything against India, but it wasn't exactly the best batting series from an SL perspective overall.

Also I think you'll find the pace bowlers who played in SA are there (except Taskin who's not fit), not that I'd expect you to notice that.

Sri Lankan Squad

Uncapped Kamil Mishara, Kamindu Mendis, Dilshan MAdushanka and Suminda Lakshan are in. Lakmal retired, Nissanka injured, Chameera and Lahiru Kumara rested. Looks like Thiri is having an extended paternity break. Roshen Silva has gone on a tour with out NOC from SLC to play minor counties in England, as an idiot.

Most probable XI would be;

Karunarathne (LH, medium)
Kusal Mendis (RH, wk)
O. Fernando (RH, wk)
Mathews (RH)
Kamindu Mendis (LH, ob / sla)
DDS (RH, ob)
Dickwella (LH, wk)
R. Mendis (RH, ob)
Jayawickrama (sla)
Embuldeniya (sla) / A. Fernando (rfm)
V. Fernando (lfm)

1 st test starts to day. As per CricInfo side is as following.

1 Dimuth Karunaratne (capt), 2 Oshada Fernando, 3 Kusal Mendis, 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Dhananjaya de Silva, 6 Dinesh Chandimal/Ramesh Mendis, 7 Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 8 Lasith Embuldeniya, 9 Kasun Rajitha/Asitha Fernando, 10 Praveen Jayawickrama, 11 Vishwa Fernando

However it is time for Kusal M to go.

I would go for Karunarathne, O. Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Mathews, Chandimal, DDS, Dickwella, Ramesh Mendis, Kasun rajitha, Jayawickrama and Vishwa Fernando as the team. Oshada and Kamindu are the highest scorers in FC competition, more than Kusal Mendis. Ramesh and Praveen would form the spin combo while Kamindu and DDS can fill in with the spin when needed.

Might be time to sticky this thread?

Shakib appears to have tested negative to his more recent COVID test having tested positive to a previous one. He will be playing, which is a relief. Will be interested to see how they've doctored the pitch for this one. Last time we played them was in a ODI series and they made the Mirpur deck look like an Edgbaston green top. It was quite a feat.

Gah, both Taskin and Miraz out I just realised. This is getting ridiculous. Feels like we've had more injuries to key players in the last two years than the previous ten combined.

Ball carrying through to the keeper nicely so far. Commentators saying there's dryness under the surface so it will turn in due course. Hopefully losing the toss won't cost us too much.

Lol, such a ****ing terrible review. It obviously pitched outside leg. They're so bad at reviewing it's something special.

Young Nayeem gets Karunaratne. That really looked like it hit him outside the line. There must have been a bee's dick in that.

Wanted badly for Kamindu Mendis to debut. Was pretty hot in form and excellent against spin. Roshen Silva acted as an ass and hence not in the side. A typical Roshen innings early in the series could have deflated Bangers a lot.

Pretty good knocks from Mendis and Mathews. Chandimnal shaping up for a good one too.

Lazy Mods haven't stickied this yet.

Great first day for SL. Flat pitch?
There was a lot of grass on it by Deshi standards, but it was too dry to offer much zip or movement. It was coming onto the bat nicely during the first session, flattened out in the second, and by the end of the day, after 6 hours baking in the sun, it started offering turn.

We might have lost the match even if we'd won the toss, but we're no chance now that they're en route to a healthy score with several days of pitch deterioration to come.

This will become the eventual low slow turner. SL however has two spinners who are extremely tall by Asian standards, Embuldeniya and Jayawickrama are both 6' 1" tall and Embudeniya in particular has a very high arm. He would be difficult on a low slow turner when inconsistent bounce starts to set in.
