5th Test at Hobart - 14-19 Jan 2022

Get the impression that the coverage of this in England is being magnified by the presumption that it was somehow breaking Covid rules. Whatever might have happened earlier in the series, having a few drinks with the opposition and being a bit noisy, and then dispersing immediately when asked to do so, shouldn’t even reach apology stage IMO.

found it:

they were still in their whites lmao
Whoever leaked the video needs his head examined. I imagine Thorpe sent it to someone in the group who then leaked it.

Nothing really wrong with the behaviour there from everyone else tbh.

He seems to be pointing out the players for... legal reasons...? Really bizarre.
Maybe he filmed it in case stories got out they'd resisted the cops or something. Or maybe he (rightly) thinks ACAB. He also may well have filmed it and sent it to someone else in the camp who then leaked it.

I figure it's 100% the first point. But why he posted it in a groupchat (or something like that) is beyond me

He had a cigar in the hotel room? So what? That's classy, it's not like he's huffing down a Winnie blue. That's some style.

Another victim of the PC police. #gustice4gooch

Hard to narrow it down if you ask yourself which batsman is most likely to be pissed off at Gooch for being a useless batting coach.

Vaughan will say it's Hameed.

"Tom Brown is a high-performance coach with Warwickshire County Cricket Club and is completing a PhD in talent identification and development in cricket.
Inside the indoor nets at the famous Edgbaston ground in Birmingham, he told the ABC just how skewed England's selections had become.

"We looked through all the specialist batters that debuted (for England in Tests) since 2011, and we found that 95 per cent of them have been white, 77 per cent of them have come from private schools, only 30 per cent of them have managed to average over 30 or more, with one player averaging 40 or more, which was Joe Root," he said.

"Our research highlighted that you were 13 times more likely if you're white and privately educated to be selected as a professional cricketer than if you're white and state educated."
In the UK, around 7 per cent of the school-age population attends what are referred to as independent fee-paying schools. Brown's statistical analysis suggests the England team's top order is a more elitist cohort than what you find in the UK's House of Lords."

And that is why the English cricket team is a joke.

"Cricket is an upper class sport in England" is not exactly a revelation.

I'm assuming the focus on skin colour is because immigrants from Pakistan and India are playing at similar rates regardless of class.

yeah private school kids are the worst. australian cricket needs to accept this before it's too late
1/3 students in Australia go to a private high school.

But I agree with the sentiment, we should be broadcasting all the international cricket on FTA.
