I would replace Shankar with Karthik against England. Shankar's just been a total passenger, besides getting Imam's wicket and generally bowling well in that game. We don't seem to need his bowling and Karthik's game may be better suited to keeping things ticking over and playing 35(40) type innings while supporting someone else. Push Jadhav up to 4 and tell him to shelve that daft dab down to third man that he tries every other ball.

Kuldeep has bowled better than his numbers indicate so far in this tournament. Good economy rate as well. At some point he'll pick up a bag. We absolutely should keep the two spinner combo going in the middle overs. Bhuvi has to sit it out, harsh as it may be.

Yeah think you're right. Horrible horrible tail though. And with Shankar at 4, that batting lineup looks pretty suspect.

Ive liked what Pandya has done with the bat so far this tournament. Played some very useful cameos.

Have a feeling he will be thrashed by England. He's the one bowler who is most likely to be despatched at the wrong time (Hardik aside).

I meant in this tournament so far. Dont think he's been particularly great. He had a poor IPL too I think?
That was just a poor joke from my side, but I think he has done fine, the Babar wicket was glorious + he has kept the runs down. I will also keep him in the team because we have a tendency of getting murdered by left handers and he can be the one real threat we have against them.

Kuldeep should be replaced by Bhuvi, very little doubt imo. Will make the attack stronger, given current form. Plus deeper batting which is badly required.
That would be a bad decision IMO. Pitches are taking more and more turn as the tournament progresses. Lyon got some the other day, Santner and Williamson were getting big turn and today also the spinners got a bit of assistance. Three pacers just wouldn't suit the conditions right now, and only one of Shami/Bhuvi can play.

Haha. It would be very cruel if they beat us in a knockout game once again after getting smacked in a group match. Then again, I guess 7-0 (12-0) has been pretty cruel for them as well LOL so we're bound to lose to them some time.
We could avoid them in SF by finishing 2nd but I doubt our players will have this negative approach. We are here to win the cup. And even though we will someday eventually lose to them in WC, just don't want that to happen this year lol.

You'll never want that to happen. :P

It truly would be a sad day when the streak would be broken, and invariably I will blame Tendulkar's retirement for that.

Yeah, they are bipolar and could well turn on their random world-beater mode as they did in the CT final and beat us. Wouldn't be surprised. But there's no point worrying about that, try to stay unbeaten and finish on top.

Would agree if Kuldeep was bowling better.

Kuldeep hasn't picked many wickets but has kept it tight and put pressure on the batting. I wouldn't break India's middle over voodoo. Just been perfect game after game.

Kuldeep hasn't been bowling badly at all. Just hasn't been picking up as many wickets as the others. I mean, Pandya's picked up troll wickets while bowling loads of garbage and probably averages better than him. Who cares? Stats over a small sample size are misleading.

Only reason we lost CT final was because KulCha hadn't been unearthed. God how awful middle overs were when Ashwin Jadeja played!

And the Bumrah no-ball. Such tiny things can sometimes decide results. We've also had things like that go in our favour, like the Sachin DRS in 2011 and the Misbah scoop, so whatever.

In hindsight, it looks like it was a no-brainer to discard Ashwin and Jaddu but those two did give us good service for a few years in ODIs also. Ashwin bowled well in two World Cups and they were good as a pair between the 2013 to the 2017 CT.

Kumar may have to miss the rest of the World Cup unless a spinner can't be played. The best chance he has is in place of Kuldeep Yadav, unless we want them to give more chances to Kuldeep to recover his lost form and inch closer to a quick 100 wickets. Both are capable batsmen lower down at eight.

Number Four is a problem - there seem no specialist batsmen left. Rishab Pant doesn't last very long in the middle, while Dinesh Karthik, though lasts longer, hasn't had a big innings either - both have similar averages. Jadhav is a top ODI batsman for India, he stays, maybe he can move up to four, while one of these plays a rapid innings at six. Or perhaps Dhoni can move up to four and Jadhav to five.

What Pandya needs to do with the ball isn't clear - line and length all the time, or try to blast the batsman out with extra pace? His accuracy is far from desirable. Strike rate (though far from helpful now) can work for him, but keeping a decent economy is less likely.

India and Australia seem very similar in the batting department in that they're both very top order reliant, have issues in the middle order especially around number four, their keeper has held them together a couple of times at the end of an innings and the other blokes are hit and miss.

Good win for them last night though. Went to bed at the break expecting to wake up to either this sort of score or WI to have chased it in about 35 overs. There seems to be no in between with them.
