I get that Aus-A hasn't really been Aus-A for years now but playing 2 kids that never even played FC cricket in the side is taking the piss (yes I know one was a last minute replacement)
tim paine must be stopped before he embarrasses the nation again

it is pretty funny that tim paine's golden boy status and being gifted positions because he's a good bloke now extends to coaching

Good to see McSweeney getting a good score as the fear was that he’d get 25 at a s/r of 20 and that wouldn’t have been a great look
Definitely good to see him in the runs, but he basically was "25 at a S/R of 20" at one point; the bloke makes Green look positively jaunty with how he starts his innings. I really feel like it's something he needs to work on tbh.

Yeah I was checking the score

Manoeuvring the ball around for singles is something those guys definitely need to work

Chance for Liam scott to push on and put his name up there (though it really shouldn't be, wouldn't have him in the top 7 or 8 seam bowling all rounders in the country)

I know they want to win/dominate but I don't see the point of Aus A not declaring here. With the bowlers selected the main benefit of this series is to try figure out the next best bats so let Sri Lanka bat and try build something to chase in the 4th innings.

Jason Sangha given up on bowling? I see he bowled 3 overs but only after 3 other spin options bowled more. When he first came along it was advertised as a bit of a batting all rounder

Without knowing for sure, I would suspect it has something to do with that weird arm issue that plauged him at times last season. Shame if so as I do genuinely think his bowling is far from the worst as an occasional option

Anyway the game somewhat unsurprisingly petered out to a draw. Hope that Australia A can actually fly a couple more decent bowlers out to Darwin before game 2, but I'm not holding my breath on that one

If Renshaw is a candidate for test opener then why isn’t he playing these 4 day games?

McSweeney is a better spin bowler than the specialists in this A side. Whatever Test side we end up fielding in a couple years is going to either have like 9 genuine bowling options or bat down to 9, or both

Have never seen Weatherald bat in red ball but now has 3 centuries in last 6 fc games

And now a ton for Sangha

Not overestimating opponents or pitch but at least they’re carrying on from last season form

Weatherald's season-by-season record:

Honestly more consistent than I expected. I guess he might've been a bit rocks and diamonds in his game by game status and certainly there's a number of seasons where he's missed a fair bit of cricket, but there's only three seasons (discounting 23/24) where he's averaged under 38. He hasn't had a genuinely gun season prior to last year which is why he hasn't been in the mix, but he's not as much of a one season wonder as he appears. Given that Australia really like an aggressor up top to, I think he's the one for the Ashes.
